Possible mobo issue

Hi, I've been having some issues with my PC recently when running certain games. It would crash to the desktop and show the message "Your display driver stopped responding and has recovered" or it would completely lock up and show coloured lines all over the screen. I thought the issue was a faulty gfx card so I had it replaced today (old one 285gtx, new one n560gtx-ti). The games no longer seem to crash but when viewing a video it locked up and displayed coloured lines all over the screen again! Does this sound like it could be an issue with my motherboard (680i SLI) or possibly another piece of hardware..? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Hmm maybe so... The first issue did sound like a GPU problem. But when it locked up, and showed different colors on the screen, that issue sounds like a RAM error. Is all your RAM set manually in BIOS? And how long has it been running fine, prior to these issues?
