@evga staff: can you please humor me (us) by at least giving a rough number of cards that are being stocked; my business sense is very curious if 10 cards sell out in 8.4 seconds or if it's 100 or 1000. I know 1000s of people are waiting, but it seems like the restock numbers are 10 cards at a time; i took a little extra time to fart the other day as I filled out my credit info and stock sold out in the process...

Many articles claim that the 28nm shortage by TSMC will be causing 680 shortages for quite some time (end of 3Q).

But let's not confuse "shortage" with "no manufacturing". A shortage would mean they can't keep up with demand, but those who are still actively watching for a GTX 680 might still be able to get one if they're quick.

It would be nice for EVGA and others to start a waiting list with pre-orders for shipments. After all, wouldn't it be nice to know exactly how many units you're guaranteed to sell? And then sell them when you get the products?

^ but you have to consider the time intensity/issues/failures of a pre-order or wait-list sort of system; do you want evga to spend their resources on making/delivering more cards or on managing a pre-order program? I opt for the first.

I'm an importer for a fortune 500 supply chain and in my experience, manufacturer delays often translate to month long periods of inventory disruptions for my end users. Although I deal with industrial equipment so I'm not sure how similar my headaches are to those in the tech industry.

With pre-ordering comes the inevitable cancellation once the customer has found the product at a different site. Some would probably even pre-order on several different sites, and then cancel all but the one who gets stock first. This causes extra work for all people involved from the seller's point of view.

With the current method, everyone has an equal-ish chance to get in. If there was a pre-order list, and someone decides now to buy a 680, he or she would be at position 5,324 on the list. This would most likely just cause frustration, followed by the customer giving up.

It's not an issue of demand, but one of supply. If a manufacturer can only produce at limited capacity you can't expect distributors to have received their forecasted stock from their suppliers.

I personally don't care about the 680, as my vanilla x58 lacks pci 3. My plan was to upgrade to a gtx 580 3gb, which to my surprise rose in price $10 on newegg. Older cards don't typically increase in base price weeks after the launch of a newer card.

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble, but you for those planning on making a +$500 purchase, they should consider the possiblity that obtaining this card within a few days won't be as easy as you think.
