GTS 450 still giving me artifacts. =/ Tuesday, March 20, 2012 2:26 PM (permalink)
Ok so I have a gts450 which I tried to use when I was having issues with my power supply and did not want to kill my 560. I was told to try multiple things to clear up the artifacts which i did. I try like 7 different drivers and I still get the same artifact lines going through my screen when playing games. I have also tried reseating the card hoping that was the cause but still the same issue. Can I get an opinion of a moderator of what I should do as far as trying to RMA? Is there anything else I can try? I tried the card in two different computers and it does the same thing. I have tried two different psus, still same issue. I don't know what to do at this point except maybe RMA?

If you can re-create the same issue in 2 systems, and a 560 works without issue, then it sounds like the 450 should be replaced.

Yeah I kind of figured this was the issue. Was just hoping that I could correct it with out an RMA. Hopefully the rebate department can send me an invoice, otherwise I will have to contact Compusa for it which shouldn't be much of a problem now that I have an account with them. I guess I will see about doing an RMA process.

Wait, you said you were having a PSU issue and you took out your 560 and put in a GTS 450 with the PSU having a problem? I'd replace that PSU before anything else, even a RMA on the card.

Yeah I already replaced the PSU and tried it on two others. And the only problem I was having with the psu was it wasn't providing enough power to my rig. I would randomly reboot. When I had my 560 in using the faulty PSU i didn't get this artifact looking lines. I am looking into RMA'n the card.

Oh okay. Have you tried to update your BIOS lately?

No I have not but even on my new motherboard it still has the same issues in game. Before the Asrock 990FX Extreme 4, which doesn't need a bios update unless I get an 8core processor, I was using an Asus M4N75TD and not sure if the bios had an update on it or not. Either way this card did this in 2 different systems and my 560 doesn't. Makes me think it is a lost cause at finding a solution so I may have to find a way to earn some money for shipping and handling to evga.

Man... Sounds like me when I tried to build my Phenom I system. I spent a ridiculous amount of money to find out what my problem was. Not fun at all... Good to see EVGA got to ya this quick.

Yup indeed. Well the 450 has been owned for i think 2 years or so. I think? It may be a year. Either way I didnt think anything of it since it was BF3 and I just thought the vid card wasn't good enough. So instead of getting a CPU upgrade for XMAS I asked for a 560. I then later found out that the 450 should have ran bf3 fine at lower settings and the lines and weird objects I was seeing was artifacts. Which sucks because it had this problem when playing games from day one. If I woulda known it was a gpu issue being faulty or something I would have taken it back to Compusa and exchanged it for a different one. Ehh hopefully I can get up enough money to send it back to evga and get a replacement. Gotta get compusa to send me the invoice of it first so I will have to call them tomorrow.
