Intel Core i7 3820 not run in EVGA X79 Tuesday, March 20, 2012 9:41 AM (permalink)
I will try with three differents boards, all with the BIOS 034, with differents models and brands of memory, with three diferents processors and only boots ocassionally. Normally shows FF postcode and reboots continuesly. This behaviour occurs in the three computers i build with the X79 XLI and the Intel Core i7 3820.

When its boots, continues booting also when power off. But when i remove the power cord, the system returns to the FF postcode and reboots continuously.

Conclussion: Intel Core i7 3820 not run in EVGA X79 SLI.

It should work, did you test a single processor or 3 separate ones? What about the power supply?

What do you get with just the CPU, PSU, 24/8 pin connector and the heatsink?
          Thanks,

            1. The PSU 24/8 pin conector and the heatsink is correctly connected.

            2. I recieve BIOS chips from EVGA with the 034 BIOS.

            3. On some rare occasion, that i tell in the first post, the board boot. Its shows FF, then 19 or 16, powers off and then powers on and boot correctly. On one on this boots I can configure BIOS (and see that is 034), install Windows and more because its runs also when powers off. But If i discconnect the power cord the motherboard shows FF again and reboots continuously.

Note: The DIMM Led (or the middle LED) is always RED. When boots and when no boots, with mem voltage manually on 1.5 or with mem voltage auto on 1.65v.

Clear CMOS or BIOS not solve the problem.

So you know... I was also getting an FF in the window and constant reboot with my 3820 and X79 FTW. EVGA sent me a new board and bios chip and I was still getting the FF... it ended up being a DOA CPU. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may have 1 also....

That is possible. Intel CPUs have a low failure rate but you could have a bad CPU.

....but what are the odds of the OP having three bad CPU's?

ONE other Possibility is Bad HD drive.  I saw with seaching that if the Hard drive has configuration error on the partitions, a 0xff is the return code.  This would mean disconnect the drive and see if the problem still occurs.  2. try a different HD 3.  See if a WD tool is available to boot from and reformat the HD from that tool.     Would try the HD before the CPU thing... but the CPU is possible if it is returning bad event code at the end of BIOS load.

It's always possible I could have misread but I also thought he tried one CPU in three different boards

I will try the SAME COMPONENTS with the motherboard Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 and its all running ok: the same processors and memory models that not run on the EVGA X79 SLI motherboards now runs on the Gigabyte motherboard perfectly.

Yes. I verified the BIOS select and trying with BIOS1 and BIOS2 in the three motherboards. The BIOS is the 034 recieved from EVGA.

I check it the first day. There is no bad contact. The two BIOS in the chip has the 034 BIOS version. I check it when it boots.

I not tryed to flash older bios chip because i not use it. I´m using the news BIOS chips recieved by EVGA.

That is possible. Intel CPUs have a low failure rate but you could have a bad CPU.

I remember years ago, or a long time ago, My Mentor that taught me about computers, we had about the same problem with one of our computers with the same problems I think, and it turned out that we found out it was the Hard Drive. Look into that if ur useing the same kind. Though I don't think ur useing the same HDD for all 3 computers, but if u did at some point that could be it to.
