      "Fake and packed with malware"

nope, and i find it funny how they do not back it up lol

there might be a botnet hiding I have yet to find tho, but I fined it to be clean so far
      I'm a ex dev for ubuntu, I helped make 9.04 and 10.04 (bug fixer/finder)
if I find something I will post it, but between work, gaming and school I do not have much time to fiddle with it

if anyone has the time can you rip the reskin for me, i'd appreciate it

did a check for root-kits and none were found
I'm going to double check for hidden apps running and look for back doors in apps like loic
I'm also trying to get a hold of the maker for some info

I did some more looking and so have others
it looks like this is nothing more then a system back up on a live cd
and all the packs are form 100% safe DL or repos

I also got in touch with the makers and got the re skin ext
also the some of the makers are well respected people in the Ubuntu crowd
they plan to stop there work too, cuz of the lies and rumors. and that was just a alpha/beta

with the reskin in hand I may make my own os or theme pack
I think that rhel5 source code I got will finally come in handy
but I may just build it on Ubuntu 10.04 seeing as I know it inside out, I did help make it

Looks pure gimmick to me. I find it totally silly to begin with. Honorable people enact their will in the public for all to see. Anonymous is not a proper role model for people to emulate.

well some members of anon do
it's hard to define them/us cuz anyone can be anon
like the makers of the os, they do not fallow the members of anon that do illegal thing, but of the old anon that on one knows about anymore

If it was actually made by Anon, i bet it has some sort of backdoor so when they need to hack something, they can use the combined power of anyone using their OS to help with it without the users consent. Good idea, but i wouldnt want to do it. lol.

But some Anon members have said it is fake and not actually made by them.

The problem with Anonymous is that it's not a real group. It's just a bunch of random people that take on a label to do questionable things from the shadows. Some group of people claiming that the other group of people who made it aren't a part of it is funny. Voodoo do-er could claim that he's the king of Anon-EVGA and it would be just as valid as the other anon pseudo-groups are.

I thought there still was still a group of 5-10 people though who orchestrate most of the movements and hacks. If i hack something, i can just label it Anon and therefore be a part of it? I thought they were an actual organization not just an "idea" so to speak.

There were founders, but there are so many independent me-too groups calling themselves Anon now that it's silly. Personally, if you're a hacker you should have better ethical standards than "the ends justify the means". It's liberal tech-hippy logic for the lose. Neither law enforcement nor the media really care about the distinction you're trying to make and the court of public opinion tends to rule in those type of matters.

there kind of hard to spell out
more or less it's any group of people that come together, who have the same beliefs, ideas and share it with one another and follows the Anonymous code
we/they have no hierarchy or set goals
but etch group has a goal, we are not all hackers, but the hackers stand out TBH

Been running it on one of my servers. I ran had it downloaded and installed as soon as it was uploaded.   Not too shabby.  Made my own refinements to it.  Overall no complaints.

FYI I scanned it and found no Trojan as the article stated.

you scanned it for a linux trojan that was probably made specifically for this OS release? Cuz, how sweet would it be if a bunch of nerds installed an OS for you that is in itself a big trojan? :P

All the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think. The trouble is that men very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work.

What I have a problem with in all of this is that as an Anon "hacker" you should know how to compile your own custom Linux distro, not have some third party (who does god knows what to it) give it to you. Real hackers roll their own OS and use their own code, not script-kitty some third party distro. IMHO, this is a poser OS.

Devil's Advocate: Maybe it's the FBI distroing it and they hope Anon users install it?

you scanned it for a linux trojan that was probably made specifically for this OS release? Cuz, how sweet would it be if a bunch of nerds installed an OS for you that is in itself a big trojan? :P

I find it funny how no one has truly spotted a Trojan
let me put it this way, Shane has a Trojan on his pc and so does this site, Shane must have a Trojan on his pc and so does this site because I say so
wile he/it could have one, but I bet he/it dose not have one

anyway I went thought the os and checked every thing top to bottom and found nothing
I even know how they made the os
not to mention that the guys who made the os all check out
but the os is not safe for hacking one bit,it's 100% open and you will not be anon
ie. we can see you ip clearly ext ext so on and so on, to make it simple you out in the open and the fbi ext will find you fast

                                      Brad_Hawthorne

What I have a problem with in all of this is that as an Anon "hacker" you should know how to compile your own custom Linux distro, not have some third party (who does god knows what to it) give it to you. Real hackers roll their own OS and use their own code, not script-kitty some third party distro. IMHO, this is a poser OS.

Devil's Advocate: Maybe it's the FBI distroing it and they hope Anon users install it?

I have to agree with you
any hacker should use there own os/software
this is why I'm going to release the re-ski, witch is 8/10'th of the os
that and I think it's cool looking

Tacgnol and Longcat, working together?  That's like letting Microsoft play with the iOS code for a day or two....

if you want the most secure and free linux distro go with backtrack 5. I've been using the backtrack series of linux distros for quite a long time and it's by far the most flexible security distro around. It's not for your everyday user it's for those who need maximum security when browsing or accessing a network. It's mostly used to do security benchmarks and assessing vulnerabilities (ex. testing wifi password strength, encryption, reverse engineering, etc)
