EVGA z68 FTW build will reboot before post?? Saturday, March 03, 2012 3:08 PM (permalink)
A build I made for a co-worker is having some odd things happening to it when it gets turned on.
It will happen once in a while, where when the computer is turned on it wont even get to the BIOS page, shuts down...and after a few seconds it will turn ITSELF on and then boot to windows.

He says it happens 1 out of 20 cold boots or so.
The CPU is clocked to 4.5GHz stable at 1.320v after running prime and linX.
16Gbs 1600MHz corsair ram
gtx570
1000w PSU
2 SSd's 120gb, 90gb
evga z68 FTW mobo.

The BIOS to the MOBO and GPU are both updated to the newest.
nothing is in RAID.

I remember this issue from the X58 classified and some of the p55 boards, it was an issue knows as double pumping, it cause issues with HDDs is some cases but overall is wasnt too bad.

IIRC the Intel VT option under the cpu features that caused it. it is used to let virtual machines installed into your OS to take full controll of either a cpu core or thread to imporve performance in the VM.

If this issue still exsists its going to peeve alot of eVGA users to no end.

As for a fix i would try turning it off first and see if it helps :)

      Good luck

I'm having the same problem.  I've notice that it seems to happen only after my system has been powered down for extended periods of time or COLD.  Once system has been running for awhile the problem does not reoccur.  Weird.  It only happens now and then with no regularity.

Well its suppose to turn on and turn off and back on again on cold starts. Its setting the timings, perfectly normal. I thought this was weird at first too.

Yep does it every once in a while for my Z68SLI.  Its just doing a self check on timings and voltages.  Nothing to worry about.
