Mass Effect 3 demo? Tuesday, February 14, 2012 12:48 PM (permalink)
So I downloaded and after 3 minutes I was done. It says it opens dramatically with the attack on earth and then shows a midsection of the game. Anyway, I found the dialogue to be stilted and preposterous, the facial animations idiotic, graphics to be worse, movement and combat virtually copy/pasted from ME2. Its clunky, your told go here go there, no choice. I'd be OK if this was pre-alpha but its not, the game is a month from deployment and I hate it.
Edit: before you call me a troll I'll say this:
I own ME1
I own all ME1's DLC
I own ME2 Collectors edition
I own every bit of ME2 DLC
I've pre-ordered ME3 Collector's edition

    Downloading demo now.

But the video I posted on the gaming site left me wondering if we're starting to see the CoDification of Mass Effect and possibly Dragon Age? The exorbitant amount that goes into developing and marketing "AAA" titles requires a massive ROI. And it seems the popular way to offset this is to "plugin" content and services (ie the iPad app integration) on top of the proven game engine. New gameplay elements, styles and experimenting with new ways to spin the narrative may be seen as too risky. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess.

But this is a demo. And the Kingdoms of Amalur demo was not too stellar either. Yet the game seems to be faring well with gamers. Lets hope PC Mass Effect 3 can deliver.

Honestly I think I may be more interested in The Enhanced Witcher 2 and Ravaged.

Ya it does feel more like COD/BF game, there's little hit indicators, the gun sounds, the overall feel is more FPSish than RPGish. There's 3 modes, sort of insta action which is dumb (cut out story only cut scene , harder (adjustable), story mode (really easy, more story), and traditional (normal ME). Why not just add skip-able cut scenes and adjustable difficulty? Co-op is a good idea but MP in ME is a dumb idea (though I have yet to test it).

The game demo definitely looked like it was on rails with no options but to go where it forced you. ME is classicly seen as an RPG, and RPGs are supposed to have more options than that. I've not played the demo yet, but I watched the YouTube play through of it. Felt more like a marginally interactive movie.

I own Mass Effect 1 and 2 got them from the steam sales but never played them. The good thing about it though is by the time i pickup me3 it will be 4.99 like the first two in the series on steam deals. I just have to many games to play :p

It seems that sometimes these demos are just there to give you a taste of the storyline, and not so much the full gaming experience.  It would probably be difficult to create a demo that would incorporate the entire Mass Effect experience.  I doubt they would deviate much from the massive galaxy exploration aspect in the release version.

I'm downloading the demo right now, but I'm not really expecting to see what the game will really be like.  We'll see how it goes!

To me it was obvious they just wanted you to play a few quick spots to try it out.  I thought the graphics looked overall better, and the facial animations were always "meh" in this series.  There is a FEW more options this time around as far as powers are concerned (different branches earlier on for each one, as opposed to just one at the end), and a little more customization options such as weapon mods (although not on the same "item spam" level as me1).

I actually played the MP with some decent people for a few hours and found it to be a pretty fun time killer.  The only thing I hope is that there's alot more maps than just the two (I'm guessing there is).

The only thing I didn't really care for was the new "heavy melee" option, but it doesn't seem like you'd get to use it alot on insanity anyways, since I seemed to get gibbed pretty fast if I tried to run and gun towards the bad guys.  Speaking of insanity, I'm glad they got rid of the "everyone has shields/barriers" crap that stopped biotic powers from being as effective in ME2.

Edit:  There is actually a difficulty setting,  the Action and RPG modes as far as I could tell had no effect on difficulty at all, but I have not tried the "story" mode yet.  The action mode just takes the dialogue choices out if I understand correctly, and the "rpg" mode is the same way you automatically played the other 2 games (dialogue choices).

its Origin Exclusive, thats reason enough to make it NOT worth buying, I still to this day won't support that service.

as much as I love the mass effect series, EA isn't getting my money until they put thier games back on steam.

I can't wait for this, don't care to play the demo, its more Mass Effect, thats what I need.

I finally got the wife to play ME1 (on easy) and she is loving it, she just finished it a couple of hours ago and is starting 2, everything that she has build and loved has been destroyed with the beginning of 2.

As far as I know is that there are different modes, Story mode takes all of the combat out, while action mode takes all of the story choices out, and then regular mode, that is where I'll be.

I understand that, it is a pretty solid shooter (enjoyable even) with great characterization. But its not for everybody, you through those easy options in there it helps everyone have a chance, if you don't want those option don't use them. Bayonetta and Vanquish have easy modes also that help you see all of the content also, I don't use it, but there is no shame in it being an option for people. My wife couldn't of played ME1 on normal, there is no way, she would of been frustrated and quit.

So that said, EA is the devil, but hey its Bioware, one of the greatest developers there is, I'm sure they learned from Dragon Age 2.

I have some incite on ME1 and 2 that I'll wait till I post again, its interesting seeing it again after a long time.

in the demo I found the cross hairs do work ,aim off a head by a hair = no dam ,move cross hairs back to the head and it gets blown off.

I just hope ME3 is going to be worth buying, if does not look as good as 1 or 2 im going to skip it.

its Origin Exclusive, thats reason enough to make it NOT worth buying, I still to this day won't support that service.

as much as I love the mass effect series, EA isn't getting my money until they put thier games back on steam.

The only game I have/will buy from Origin (and I actually bought from Amazon) is Battlefield. The other games aren't enticing enough for me to play with the devil.

is it just me?  or does the game play damn solid at 2560x1600 with only a stock gtx 570?

I've played the demo on PS3 (PC down for the next week or 2) and the frame rate was horrible, facial expressions were very stale and unemotional, combat seemed too easy (I'm guessing since it's a demo they didn't want to make it too hard), but I'll most likely end up getting the game because of the story, but definitely for PC.

Downloaded the ME3 demo a few nights ago, and still have yet to check it out.  Also reminded that I need to finish ME2 still, as well.  :)

I started replaying ME2 and its made me want to play ME3, despite the disappointing nature of ME3 demo I'm looking forward to the game anyway.

I would expect it to be, because all the ME games use the unreal game engine which is incredibly optimized.

I haven't played any of the Mass Effect games but I did download this demo to check it out.  Its not bad and seems like a fun game, but it isn't my style of game really.  I'd rather play CS or BF3!

After playing through the demo,  it was exactly as I expected it.  It was just a taste of the storyline, with none of the actual Mass Effect RPG elements.

The graphics weren't groundbreaking, but I will expect a little improvement on the final release.  Demo's don't usually ship with all of the high res textures.  Combat seemed a little clunky to me,  but that's probably because I've been playing a lot of battlefield, and need to get used to Mass Effect again.

I will still pre-order this game, Origin or not!  I can't miss out on the last part of the storyline.  I love the Mass Effect series.
