yea they got their PC server files leaked and somehow people were setting up their own server listings and had wacky amounts of people allowed. They have came out and said if you had played in any of these(more than 1 once, plus your account becomes compromised) you can be banned. This is just what I had saw in the forums on Battlelog. Take it with a grain of salt BUT if their files got leaked you know they will do their best to keep it from happening again.

The problem is they said they were going to model accurate round speeds, but they aren't doing the ballistics very well. The UMP 45 should OWN in close quarters. Why? .45 ACP round in full auto mode! Even at moderate range it should do a lot of damage. However, the .45 shouldn't punch through armor, and at longer distances should lose power a lot faster than a 9mm or so forth. I think DICE took the time to put in proper weapon speeds (this shows on the RPGs too) but didn't bother to do the rest of their homework with ballistics and terminal ballistics. That's all arbitrary and jury-rigged to "balance" rather than to be realistic.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Counter-Strike, back before Valve got in on it, had the right idea. No, no, it wasn't 100% accurate, and it had its issues and its balance choices made, but they tried to really model every gun to its real personality. Sometimes I disagree with what they did but the overall package was fairly diverse. BF3 doesn't feel that way. The 9mm and the .45 in CS had very different accuracies and stopping power. The P90 vs the UMP had wildly different personalities. You would never snipe with a UMP in CS. You can put a 3x scope on it in BF3! I think this and several other problems exist with BF3's choice of weapons coding. Not even hit detection, just the values they chose to assign to different guns and bullets.

For gameplay balance sake you could have the M-16A4 do 25% damage to all aircraft and helos per bullet. That would limit the ability of aircraft to totally dominate a landscape unscathed, and would mean any ground unit could put up significant fire (as in real life) at attacking planes. If this happened it very well might be balanced but would still suck royally because that's not how that gun works and now how it interacts with those objects. Balance for the sake of balance is a turnoff. Like America's Army, where every bullet no matter what gun it came from had the same power. MGs vs rifles, AK47s exact same firing as M-16s, etc. There is a point at which balance is a bad thing when your entire reputation is that these are a substitute for the real world equivelant. To that end while you know it's a game you also know/want/expect them to at least be similar to what they claim to be. Anything that takes us closer to that is good. I'm not saying we need ARMAII or some extreme that's more aggravating than fun. CS1 was fun too, don't forget. My $0.02.

Not practical, M249 SAW I could see that though. Which is just the M16 on roids.

Different barrels, different weights... Generally speaking the amount of barrel bounce on an M249 in this game is rather high. Especially for a bipod, front handle, etc. Then there's the stupid stuff where DICE chops the ammo count in half, just so they can "make up" a specialty that you unlock 2 weeks later that restores them to normal (seen in BC2 as well) like the shotguns with short clips, like the M249 with 100 rounds only, etc. They say one thing ("We're looking at the real guns to model them") then do another ("we're copying MW2 crappy gun system") On top of that, I was psyched to see an IR scope as an unlock, but seeing footage of that on youtube it's idiotic. It's just a texture swap when scope is engaged. No heat involved. Random green spots on walls where lights hit, and flashlights still do the stupid full-screen blinding, whatnot. They just toggled some texture mode to replace what you see rather than actually modeling things so people stick out based on heat. Hypocritical behavior, DICE.

Yah the IR scope is pretty lame. It's nice to spot campers in bushes but that's really it. And who wants to attach a scope that's only going to be used very very situationally and is not practical for 98% of the match?

If it were actual heat, it would be awesome in metro, for example. Hiding in bushes all over, and once you're in the tunnels it would be second nature! That is, **IF** it actually showed heat and not just stupid orange textures (bad looking ones, to boot!). If it showed heat most of the background would be toned down shades and you would be able to hide behind cover and have areas washed out like by the train cars where the fires rage, but otherwise you'd be pretty open. Not saying it means you're a sitting duck, just that you're more easily spotted. Real pity DICE is phoning it in these day. Hell even AvP got it right and that game was from what? 1999? It wasn't the only one to do proper heat, either! C'mon... Sheesh!
