GTX 580 SC SLI high temp Monday, September 19, 2011 5:02 PM (permalink)
I have Gtx580 SC 2 way SLI, my max temp when I play metro is @ 83c and the other card @73c ,my fan speed is set to 67%
(i don't wanna make it higher cuz it's already loud)

my default voltage is @ 1.088 should I lower it to get lower temp? I don't want my temp to go over 75c

I need the safe settings to adjust my card with MSI afterburner.

pc specs:
Asus Sabertooth p67
GTX 580 super clocked 2 way SLI
intel i7 2600k OCed @ 4.2ghz
8gb ram 1600mhz
HHD 1TB 7200rpm
psu 1200w
Haf x case

Put fan 75-80% on gpus. If your going to lower voltage you will need to set your cards to stock clocks.

FYI; That game makes my rig heat up and I use 150CFM Deltas! If your cards are tight drop the lower one down so you have at least one open space between your GPU's and see if the performance is acceptable.

can you plz give me the full settings so I don't mess up my GPU like what I did to my gtx280? plz correct me if i'm wrong
the stock core clock 772 MHz
        memory clock 4008 MHz ???
        shader clock 1544 MHz ???
        voltage??

        ---
btw my gtx580 SC's default settings is
        core clock 797
        shader clock 1594
        memory clock 2025
        default voltage 1.088

@Nozler, I only have two pci slots on my sabertooth p67

thanks, so my settings should be:
the stock core clock 772 MHz
            memory clock 4008 MHz
            shader clock 1544 MHz
            voltage 1.00

I have one more question, will lowering the voltage void the warranty??

memory clock should be 2004 in Afterburner NOT-->4008 (if you try and set 4008 you will blow up your card)
Whatever memory value is set in Afterburner is DOUBLED, so setting 2004=4008

Lowering the voltage with Afterburner will not effect your EVGA warrenty, but dropping the voltage may/or may not be stable.. if 1.000v does not work, you will need to add some more.

Your cards temps are normal for running with the fans forced to 67%... ramping the fans better with a custom profile will drop temps more than ANY voltage changes.

@maniacvvv thanks alot mate. I will try the custom fan profile first. if everything goes well I wont underclock/lower voltage
but lets say If I use the stock settings should I do it on both cards?, what voltage do you suggest other than 1.00?

Since your running SLI, you should "sync" both cards in Afterburner. This way any changes apply to both cards.

As for your fan profile, since your cards appear to be getting nice temps...
Try a profile that sets 70-75% fan speed at 70c and see if the noise is OK.

Really bro, you bought (2) 580's... they are going to make noise if you want that kind of performance
and 83c at 67% fan speed is nothing to worry about whatsoever, although you could probably get them to run in the mid 60c range if you didnt care about the fan speeds.
Personally, I use headphones and run my fans at 85% for any temps above 65c (see my profile)
(I use the stock BIOS (no fan unlocker as that increases voltage) and my cards are both factory VID at 1.000)

Using the above profile, with fan min set at 50% (see my idle temps below)

Using a aggresive profile like mine, keeps the cards max temps very low running stressful benchmarks..

*Normal stock voltage from the factory ranges from below 1.000v to 1.088v
Since all cards are set differently at the factory, anything inside that range can be set without worry..
-->the only question is if its stable at a lower voltage.

what If I set them both to stock clock without changing the default sc voltage? would that be safe??
the stock core clock 772 MHz
                    memory clock 2004 MHz
                    shader clock 1544 MHz
                    voltage 1.088 (default)
btw I tried to use the custom fan speed, but temp still can reach 75-80 on both cards while underload (playing metro 2033)

Without lowering the voltage, you do not gain obvious improvement upon temperature. Voltage is the dominant factor in terms of power and temperature.

ok so I used the stock settings except the voltage is a little higher = 1.013v , played metro for 10 minutes and bam! temperature on the 1st cards decreased from (80c maximum to 69c)!! and the 2nd card from 73c max to 66c! on idle temp didn't change but fps went down from 90 max to 70... well thats on metro only.

how can I know if my settings are stable?? btw thanks to all who helped me so far! especially (maniacvvv)!!

I played a little more and temps are great so far, I just wanna ask two more questions,
(question1) does the voltage/underclock affect the quality or just the performance?? If the answer is no I'm going to set voltage at 1.000v and see what happens..
(question2) what would happen if 1.000v isn't enough??

Volatge effects neither quality or performance... unless the voltage drops to low and the card or driver becomes unstable.

Give 1.000v a try, if its not enough... you will know it and no harm will be done

Hello everyone, I am new here. I've got some questions about the stock voltage.

Recently I bought my second GTX 580 SC. And now I want to change only the Voltage to 1.00. Have anyone tried this or not?

PS: Sorry for my bad English..:P

yes you can, but don't forget to underclock it
