Intel i7 2600k 4.4GHZ Overclock Saturday, September 10, 2011 1:55 AM (permalink)
Hey guys, I found EVGA forums as one of the best forums ever, especially the members :D

I have a question about my CPU, although I have overclocked it to 4.4ghz and my voltage settings at 1.345v, is that by any chance safe? or should I go lower? I'm using the H60 corsair currently and the ASUS z68 pro. or maybe you guys could recommend a better CPU cooler instead? im getting max temp around 74ºc at max 100% load.
Mother Board: ASUS P8Z68-Vpro

As long as your system is stable and keep temps under 80 your solid. If you can trim it down near 70 pure awesomeness

Seems like you have a high voltage for that speed (maybe I just got a lucky chip).  I have mine at 4.7Ghz with 1.3 volts.  With my h100 I have temps in the low 60's C.  My ambiant is usually 75 to 80 F.

I guess i could change a bit more on the voltage, but you reckon my thermaltake MK-I fulltower would fit a corsair H100?

did you use the Asus auto-overclock, or did you set the overclock yourself?
If you let the auto overclock do it, you should probably change a few things.
            Got into the Bios
            select advanced the CPU configuration

BCLOCK - set to 100 (Asus auto changes this to 103-105)
Multiplier - 40-45 (whichever you want)
            Leave everything else at 'Auto')

            save and reboot.

I overclocked it myself to 4.4GHZ and manual 1.345 volts cept i keep thinking its to high, is auto volt a good choice for 4.4 or 4GHZ? or should i lower it to 1.3v or lower. cause most guide tend to set their voltage high, but many people that overclock their cpu have voltages lower then i expected, so im getting abit confused.

Just set your Bclock and mulitplier and leave the rest (including voltage) on auto.  you should be able to get 4.2-4.5 for around 1.3v

See how you go; The Asus motherboard seems really good at getting the most out of the chip for the least voltage.

It does reset a couple of times when you first overclock, when it's working out the correct voltage, after that you should be sweet. If it reset more than 5 times in the first hour, you'll have to do it manually - which is pretty easy.
If you are running the stock cooler, you should also put the fan profile to Turbo.

You want to stay below 70 fursure, and below 60 is ideal.

                    my 2500k is running @ 4.725 @ 1.425 volts

temps go from low 60's  to sometimes mid 70's depending on how hot the outside temp is.

I am fine with it, life span of a transitor ( or any sillicon based devices ) will decrease by 10% for every 10degrees C increased.
for every 10% voltage increase you are decreasing life span by around 5-10%
so unless your computer is running 24 7 working on folding or something liek that your OK

All the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think. The trouble is that men very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work.

The Intel max voltage for the chip is 1.35 so you want to keep it as close as that as possible, I believe anything over 1.425 is really pushing the chip to the limit - you want to make sure your cooling setup is up to scratch if you are going to go that far.

try setting the voltage to 1.3 and see how stable it is.  Most people manage to get a 2600k to 4.5 without going over 1.35.

you could try that, and blow your chip(and probably the motherboard socket as wee), and then have Intel refuse your RMA because they'll know you overclocked it!

                          I'd stick with 1.35-1.4.

I can assure you that giving 1.5v to the core will not cause the chip to blow, maybe some degradation, and neither the socket will blow as long as yopu keep it in a safe range of temps. People out there are giving 1.6v on water to try the highest speed they can. Running more than 1.45-1.46v for 24/7 can cause you chip to degrade. All you have to watch carefully is to not go high on temps.

That would have to be custom water as opposed to the OPs AIO H60. I am perhaps a little more cautious than many when it comes to voltage; I've seen what to high a voltage can do.

OP, just noticed you're from Australia! Glad to see another Aussie on here!
Have you done any further adjustments to your system at all?

Additionally, do you have your H60 as stock push, or push/pull? have you added any other fans to the case other than
                              the stock ones?

You should be able to get a H100 into that beast without any issues from what I can see.
They're a bit pricey here though, cheapest I've seen them is $170

I recently bought this  for my system. It's ridiculously huge, but does a great job keeping the cpu cool.

I know this is a late reply, you probably have already finished your OC, but I had a EVGA P67 FTW and now a EVGA Z68 FTW, not sure how that compares to your mobo as far as OC capability, but when i had the P67, I had the same H60 Watercooler, and my OC was set at 4.8Ghz x48 Multiplier and voltage at 1.35v.  On Full load I was getting temps that topped out at 75-78C.  However, I had aftermarket Coolermaster LED 120mm fans, $6 fans so not super impressive, but they were in a Push/Pull Configuration. only 69CFM and 19dBa.

Now on my new Z68 board, I have it all set up exactly the same, but with the H100 in a push pull configuration with the same fans mentioned above, (4 now of course) but my temps only dropped by about 2C, so you dont need to upgrade the cooler unless you go way aftermarket and get more expensive radiators and pumps etc... Dont need to go out and get amazingly fast fans either because the stock pumps on those Corsair coolers in conjunction with the radiators cant really dissipate the heat fast enough anyway.

4.8Ghz is about the cap for those coolers though, had mine at 5.0 had to take it up past 1.4v but in full load they were hitting 84-86C which is way above my safe temp range of 75C.

Also, at 4.5Ghz, I was able to keep my voltage at auto, so it would set it just under 1.3v at that speed.

Hope this helps as this is just some info on what my settings were.

P.S - My room temp is usually around 24C( 75-76F) to get the above full load temps.  I tested it a while ago with the room temps at 70F, probably where normal people keep there temps, and at full load I was getting 70-72C.
