EVGA GTX 480 Clocks/Temps Thursday, July 21, 2011 5:15 PM (permalink)
I'll be getting some GTX 480's for SLI this weekend and I was just wondering what kind of overclocks people are running. I'd like the temps as well cause I know these cards run HOT You can also add any notes about cooling enhancements you've added and what not (aftermarket cooler, HF bracket, Backplate, etc).

I am running 480 SC`s on water with an overclock of 870/1740/2000. I havnt pushed them real hard. My temps at idle run mid 30`s and under heavy load mid 50`s typically. They obviously respond very well to liquid cooling. The highflow bracket improves airflow and cooling, and would definitely be recommended. Before I put in my loop I think I got an improvement of 3 to 5 degrees by changing to them. Another thing that is very effective is creating a fan profile with Precision or Afterburner. This way the fan speed can be set at intervals to better regulate temperatures and keep noise down. A side case fan blowing directly at the cards also works very well. Many people have also purchased aftermarket air coolers for there cards which are very effective at keeping the beasts cool. The downside to these are that they usually ocupy 2 slots so may not be a good option if extra room is at a premium.
If memory serves I believe I was able to achieve an overclock of 830/1660/2000 on air. Idle temps low 40`s  and load temps in the low 80 degree range. Many people have had much better luck than I have ,and I am by no means even close to any thing like an expert.
They are very powerful cards. Just keep in mind that it can be challenging to keep the noise and heat down without putting forth some effort.

I know that isnt the 480, but I had a 470 air cooler and only to give you a idea how hot the card is, I used it on 725MHz 16% OC, default voltages, and using a fan profile on afterburn the max temps were 86C and fan at 82%, but the noise was very loud, so since the 480 are even hotter then the 470, for a SLI going into WC is a really nice idea to me.

Yeah, I want to overclock these cards to the max to get the most performance possible. I would love to watercool the cards but I really don't have the cash for everything )=

Decided to pick up 2 Zalman VF3000F's last night from buy.com (were only $65 each, which is by far the cheapest price online). Thought about going for two AXP's but my case really doesn't have the room for those monsters haha.

          Ambient temp is 35C.
          Number of Cards: 1
          Core Clock: 775
          Memory Clock: 1900
          Voltage: default
          Temp: 85 @ 77% fan

At 80%, the fan gets really loud; the gpu fan is already the noisiest component in my case, but past 80 it's at the point of annoying.

Thanks for all the replies everyone (= Just wanted to get a general idea of where these card stand with voltage and clocks. I got my cards two weeks ago and I'm currently running them at 800/1600/2000 at 1.05V with stock cooling. Also, I have to agree with you Max killz...summer time adds lots of unwanted heat when I'm gaming lol >< I like it better when the computer heats me up during winter.

@wzzrd: For the temps you're getting with those overclocks I'd say you're in great shape =D

Hey there Blackhawk567, i'll bet you remember me;D with that super bad 480. Yup, still got it and it's getting worse, its going out. BUTT, when i was running it and testing it out first time, and using it for gaming etc, i got max oc at the following ON AIR:
                    Core: 860MHz
                    Shader: 1720MHz
                    Memory: 2055MHz
Voltage: 1125V(not sure where decimal goes, probly after first 1) but thats what i got max on air during winter. So potentially with a ****ty card like the one im using, you could get a great oc on it. Now with water cooling....i'm sure you can go even further, idk how that guy up there can get 900, thats crazy. Probly doesnt run very well/long that high.

Oh yea and that was with a Gelid Icy cooler mounted on it using epoxy to hold down the heatsinks. But if you use something other than epoxy(which i'd suggest) then you should get maybe better temps cuz i would idle around 40-45 and get anywhere from 80-93 when gaming, but thats summer. More like 37 idle and 80 in winter. But yes beware these cards do naturally get extra hotter, i don't like it but....it was an RMA card so...nothing i could do really.
