Extreamly slow POST 780i - Saturday, November 07, 2009 5:46 AM ( #1 )
Hello,

I had my PC running for well over a year in the exact same configuration. Today I woke up, and It's being very odd. When it turns on, the POST screen types every character out like an old typewriter. It goes very slowly, than when it finishes checking RAM, it takes a good 3-5 minutes to start testing HDD, than another 3-5 minutes to test the SATA, IDE, etc than eventually finishes. Takes about 20 minutes to get through the post screen. AT the end if I let it run, no peripherals are detected so I cant F1, DEL etc or anything. This is an endless loop. I've tried removing all the ram, moving it around. No matter how many sticks I have in or which and where does the same thing. If you guys have any ideas let me know! Thanks,
Matt

intel quad core 2.7ghz

Just tried replacing CPU and memory with other known working hardware but had the same result. Looks like it's pointing to a motherboard issue!

Just wanted to give you guys an update. Still haven't put my figure on it.

I removed the motherboard, ram, cpu, and video card put in on with another PSU and it booted up fine. So I thought great! Must be the PSU. So I rebuilt it all back into my PC and for grins I hooked up my old PSU and everything is working fine. No errors, nothing. It's running like it did before. I suspect it's a PSU issue still because my power button isn't working. I have to use the one on the motherboard. What are you referring to when you say "vtt"? I am running default settings, no overclock at all on anything. Thanks,
Matt
