8800GT Device Manager Error Code 43 - Thursday, November 05, 2009 10:38 PM ( #1 )
Hello,

I am receiver error code 43 in the device manager after a really bad crash this morning. I was playing Age of Chivalry when it locked up and my monitor went into sleep mode. After shutting the computer off and starting it up again I got a disk read error. I run a backup with Acronis True Image every night so I just reverted back to that image after re-creating the array. After booting into my restored OS I noticed that my video cards had a yellow bang next to them in the device manager so I unplugged my ethernet cable, uninstalled the nvidia display drivers, rebooted into safe mode, ran driversweeper and install the latest video drivers (191.07). Upon reboot after this I got the error code 43 on only one graphics card. I tried reinstalling that driver again which gave me the same result, so I tried the beta 195.39 drivers with the same result. I am running with the beta drivers right now. I can still seem to play games fine. Any help with this problem would be appreciated. I'm guessing one of my cards may be dead? Unfortunately I wasn't informed by the store I bought them from to register within 30 days and I don't have the lifetime warranty. I can't quite seem to wrap my head around that policy, but I guess that is eVGA's choice. I will however be avoiding them next time I shop for video cards. It's a shame since they seem to produce some quality stuff. Screenshots and specs are included below (click for larger):

Did you register the video cards at all? Try one video card at a time. If one works and other does not then it is faulty. How long have you had the video cards? Do you still have the original purchase receipt?

I just had a 8800 gts 320 brick on me too last night, no warranty bought it refurb. Really was trying to hang on for the 300 series, I don't know if I have what it takes to last.

Yes I registered them a few months after when I was having problems and found out that the "lifetime" warranty advertised was only if you registered it within 30 days. These cards have always had odd problems, but I could never find a solution. I even replaced my power supply on a whim because of it.

You know I actually think it was less than a year ago that I purchased them. I'll have to look into the warranty. It's kind of hard to try one video card at a time as they're tied into my WC Loop and I'm using a solid metal tube between the two cards, however I will try your suggestion at some point this wekend. I do not look forward to it :(.

I probably do, but I have already submitted a copy of the invoice to eVGA when I registered the cards.

Yep, one of the cards is definately dead. When taken out of sli and the other card removed it just shows "noise" on the screen from boot. The card is out of warranty. I'll try to call eVGA today and see if anything can be done about the warranty situation. I have no voice my annoyance at this 30-day registration policy. The sole purpose seems to be to cheat people out of lifetime warranties. I could be wrong, perhaps somebody could enlighten me.
