Mw, did you notice any microstuttering at all when running Vantage (especially the last part of the Jane Nash benchmark when she takes off)?

          I didn't notice any.

          So everything was completely smooth?

Okay, when I clock my CPU up to 4.0Ghz... here's the new Vantage score.

Mem clocks timings were 2000Mhz 9-9-9-24-1T vs. my 3.3 OC which has them set to 1800 Mhz 8-8-8-24-1T.

The GTX 480s were left at stock clocks.

            As you can see -- that's a win. Almost 34K vs 31.2K.

I'll put it this way... All the games I've played -- MW2, BFBC2, FC2, L4D2, etc all have had no micro-stutter. Vantage has been smooth as butter so far.

I'm about to run the Extreme preset. My monitor is 1920x1080... extreme requires 1920x1200. i'll run the extreme with the 1920x1080 and we'll see what happens.

Does anyone know, or is there any benches that show a performance relation to cpu clockspeed @ 1920x1080 in Heaven2.0?  Maybe that would be some good info to know.  I know there are many games that it depends more what resolution you are at than what your CPU clockspeed is.  Some games/resolution run the same fps on a stock clocked Phenom as they do on a OC'd i7....usually at 1920x1080 and up.

I'm not sure if Heaven is in this category....that's why I'm seriously asking this question.

Ok I ran Heaven of course this is DX10 with no Tessellation and my gpu was at stock clocks. All I did was go from 201 fsb to 191 fsb. I also had to run windowed since my monitor does not do 1920 x 1080.

              4.0Ghz

              4.2Ghz

I will no longer do business with EVGA.

Ha, and the BF:BC2 fps at 1920x1080 32xQ AA and 16xAF all other settings on and max -- solid 70-90 fps. gorgeous too.

Thats what i am waiting for all night long. Thats what i play , and i am waiting today UPS to deliver my SLI 480's but couldn't wait longer i was about to post request to test the game.

My first question is any problems with SLI? My bro in law have huge problems with 2 GTX 260's and i as afraid its not supported by the game.
2nd. did you forced DX11 in the game INI?

                Thank you in advanced.

And thanks and great job with all those tests :)

an 850W can do it, for sure. i probably have 100W to spare at 4.0 Ghz...

temps... lol... at load on auto fan - 95-99*C. my office is no hotter than it usually is with my old 260s in SLI.

this has next to no value at all... but since i couldn't run extreme preset due to monitor res... i ran it at 1920x1080 instead with MSAA at 8x and AF at 16x with all texture/shader settings at Extreme.

I figure that's about as close as I can get to extreme -- although I don't know what the Extreme Preset actually is with regard to MSAA and AF.

                          Here's the GPU score:

I'd imagine that'll hold it's own for a real extreme preset.

So an 850 watt PSU can do it!!!

What are your video card Temps like?

an 850W can do it, for sure. i probably have 100W to spare at 4.0 Ghz...

temps... lol... at load on auto fan - 95-99*C. my office is no hotter than it usually is with my old 260s in SLI.

And thanks and great job with all those tests :)

no problems with SLI with the 480s or with my old 260s. i didn't force dx11 it auto picked dx11.

                              Thanks for the answer.

But cant stop wondering why he cant run SLI in BF2BC  in DX10 mode.  We tried everyhting i managed to come with.  driver cleaner. up to date drivers. SLI enchanter  from eVGA. The second the game starts at the first blue video i think the game crash to desktop...
But i won't ruin your tread. Ill send you PM with some questions if thats ok?

Okay, so, here's the Heaven 2.0 rerun at 4.0Ghz and stock clocks on the 480. The min fps is up as I didn't notice that glitch this time. Could have been a CPU bottleneck. The min fps was at initial launch of the bench... it never dropped below 4x fps otherwise.

Great review! Thanks for taking the time out to give us a good glimpse of the 480's in SLi from a users perspective. I really appreciate the fact that you mentioned details about your system configuration/settings and did benches with stock clocks. SLI'ed 480's look like a great alternative to my 260's. Please keep us posted with more benches and screen shots.

Have fun with your new toys! Congrats!! ;)

yea def need to get a better handle on the thermals. Auto fans with a 95-99C is pretty crazy. IMO this make the GTX 480 not very overclock friendly at a stock config. I guess this means water cooling?

Its interesting that an OC 5970 pretty much is a tie 480 SLI. Though the i7 CPU was at 4.0 and not 3.3 on the GTX 480 SLI rig. Downclock the CPU on the 5970 rig please and retest?

This is what i was talking about.

Of course, from your post kram, it seems when you bump up the AA to 8x and the tessellation to extreme the 5970 takes far greater a hit than the 480s ... pretty impressive.

At normal levels we need to have the clocks down to where the GTX 480 was in this test I have posted here or have a test at normal with the GTX 480 at 4 ghz? (thats gotta be around here somewhere lol).

Your Vantage score above looks consistent as compared to 3 X 280's in SLi at the same CPU overclock.

                                                            Here's an orb comparison from the Tri SLi Vantage thread with 3-way SLi'ed 280's @ 4Ghz: P34,456
                                                            http://service.futuremark.com/resultComparison.action?compareResultId=848881&compareResultType=19

Although it's still too early to tell of your full potential, it's a nice jump coming from dual 260's.
