EVGA GTX 670 Low FPS on ARMA 2/ DAYZ MOD
Saturday, August 18, 2012 11:20 PM
( permalink)
Hello, I just recieved my new Evga gtx 670 4gb sc and installed it. On BF3, I get 75 fps avg. Ultra settings 1920x1080. HOWEVER, In Arma II, I am getting from 27-40 randomly. Usually stays around 34 however. I understand Arma II optimization is awful, but shouldn't I be at least hitting 50 fps avg.? I feel like I wasted my money if I can't get this game to run any better... Anybody with a GTX 670 and Arma II care to tell me their avg fps and settings? Any tips to help me improve my fps? (fyi, I did install the new beta nvidia driver. No help) Thanks! ____________________________________________________________________________ System: i5-3570k EVGA GTX 670 4GB SC Asus Sabertooth z77 mobo Asus Phoebus ROG 7.1 sound card 8gb (4gb x 2 G.Skill Ripjaws ddr3 1600) Corsair 850w psu

It is not. As a novice computer user who just entered into gaming, I'd rather not risk it if the game doesn't need it. Apparently this one does. Will this boost my fps considerably? By overclocking?

You also don't need to OC your CPU for DayZ. I run on a stock i7 950 with no issues on most games i play. Bottleneck wise at least.

Where would I find that setting in the Nvidia CP? I can't seem to find it.

No, no increase in fps. Stayed about the same, dipped about 2-3 fps lower for some reason.

Day Z is a mod for Arma II and Arma II is a very CPU taxing game. What is your game settings? Also just because you can play say BF3/Skyrim Ultra doesn't mean you'll be able to pull it off with Arma II. CPU intensive, tied with poor optimization, tied with bugs (day Z), tied with if you up your settings for draw distance, equals you having poor performance.

I saw your post on Tomshardware also, and pretty much you'll hear the samething no matter where you post. The game just isn't all around good. One of the main reason you won't see it in hardware comparisons as a bench since it gives off such inconsistent readings.

I even notice a difference in performance between 4,5 ghz (i7 2600k + GTX480 SLI) and 4,8ghz! Roundabout 5 to 10 fps. So Stephan_S i suggest you read a few oc guides for your cpu and test it! You don´t need extrem OC, 4,2 to 4,5 ghz should do the trick ;-) and it is not even slightly dangerous.

Tune down your view distance; turn off AA in-game, and turn on FXAA in the CFG file. This is from the readme_fxaa.txt in your game folder: Details === Since ArmA2OA build 88147 it is possible to use post processing anti-aliasing namely FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing ),version used: 3.11 Default === The FXAA is by default disabled. (PPAA=0;) Settings === In arma2oa.cfg were added new config entries: PPAA=<number>; PPAA_Level=<number>; Accepted values for PPAA are: 0 - Disabled 1 - FXAA 2 - FXAA + sharp filter 3 - SMAA Accepted values for PPAA_Level are: 0 - FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_12 1 - FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_22 2 - FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_26 3 - FXAA_QUALITY_PRESET_39 Complexity of quality settings are based on default FXAA settings (version 3.11) NOTE: FXAA can be enabled even if Post-Processing was disabled in advanced video options! BTW, .cfg files are located in your Documents folder.

Post processing is the thing that will bring y our fps down sooooo much, not to mention that without it the game looks nice and crisp.

mcarey6 Follow this guide. Took me from around 30fps with a 670 to 70+. Makes a massive difference. Plus it tells you how to change the FOV to 90 which is also nice. Got me from about 33 fps to 39-40 in cherno. Is this what you're getting?

Turn on turbo mode if you haven't, and messing with any "Dummy overclock" features so to speak (not sure what ASUS calls it) is worth a shot. You shouldn't have to reduce NVIDIA Control Panel settings (though Prefer Maximum Performance is a necessity)... just make sure AA and AA transparency are set to application controlled. Make sure the following settings are enabled in-game. - 3D Resolution: 1920 x 1080 - View Distance: 3500 is a good setting - Video Memory: Default - Terrain Quality: Normal (looks the same as maximum. improves performance) - Anti-aliasing: Disable MSAA, just use the FXAA on high preferably, you can use the sharp filter if you want Your performance should be fine after this, even with Quality ambient occlusion.

So cpu overclocking really goes the difference for this game?

Stefan_S So cpu overclocking really goes the difference for this game? It certainly helps. Turbo mode should be fine if you don't to overclock, though if you bought that CPU without intending to overclock then you wasted some cash. Also be sure to install new GPU drivers using Clean Installation.

Even with my 680 sli setup sometimes i find a dayz server that just gives me 10-20fps for some reason, no matter how many times i log into it. Don't know why it happens but it has done it to me many times with many different servers. Finding a different server solves it for me, it's really a game thing not a config thing. My buddy gets the same thing with his sli 560 ti 448's when it happens to me so it's not our side....question the server side.

Re:EVGA GTX 670 Low FPS on ARMA 2/ DAYZ MOD FIXED!!!!!!
Sunday, August 26, 2012 1:30 AM
( permalink)
Hey everyone - I have found a fix for the DayZ mod on Arma 2. I now have DayZ running at 45-50 FPS with most settings maxed out! First go to this link -   www.dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/72935-solved-seeking-assistance-with-ramdisk-pathing-issue-non-steam/ - Installing the DayZ mod to RamDisk will GREATLY increase load times and overall speed of the mod. Next, you need to tweak two .cg (config) files. Go to this link for an easy 2 minute tutorial - www.dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/36688-maximize-frame-rate-on-dayz-and-arma2-low-frames-fix/ - After that, start up Arma 2 (making sure that you have added the variables needed for the mod paths, as instructed in the two tutorials) and tweak your video settings - I leave post-processing to 'low', because for some reason at higher levels the game becomes very blurry. You can basically Max out everything else, with the exception of Anti-Aliasing, HDR, and Anistrophic Filtering, and the DayZ mod will now run at a smooth 45+ framerate. A GTX 560 or better should have no problem running this game. It's all in the scripting changes, and adding the mod to a RamDisk Partition. Hope this helps you guys out! I finally can now play DayZ without FPS frustration :)

And just so you guys know - I have a a few computers at the house, and the PC that is currently running the DayZ Mod is a Quad-Core Phenom 2, with - believe it or not - a pitiful Radeon HD 4650 (overclocked). You guys will definitely be blasting on the highest settings with some pretty awesome Frame rates if you follow the instructions from those links!
