Raising power target past 100% in precision results in red screen 3 way 670 sli Saturday, July 28, 2012 4:05 AM (permalink)
As per title this happens when i raise the power target past 100% in evga precision otherwise at full stock everything I looped heaven 3.0 on max for 8 hours and woke up to it still going instead of a red screen. Now the red screen would happen in Unigine only 3d mark11 it wouldnt happen in, as well as part of my successful attempt with power target at 100% i also left fan on auto so it would go past 70 degrees celcius to see if its crashing when it hit 70 and it hit 86 and never crashed. I tried reseating my sli bridge and all other steps except testing each card 1 by 1 buuuuuut if it is a power problem I suppose 1 card is going to be fine since 3 cards = more power. So what does this seem like a bum card, bum power supply? i dont have any other 1200 watt power supplies just hanging around to test.

My specs are

i7 3770k 3.5 ghz
noctua d 14 cooler
16 gig gskill 2400 mhz ram trident x memtest for 2 days straight no errors
3 way gtx 670 super clocked 4 gig cards
antec 1200 hcp power supply
2x 512 gb crucial m4 ssd in raid 0

so the pc is no slouch at all just trying to figure out whats going on. I do not mind having everything at stock I just wanna make sure this isnt something being bad causing the issue like my psu or maybe a bad card or 2

    weird thing to is during that successful run of 8 hours with the power target at 100% btw the cards have sync checked if that makes a diff the power target on all 3 still went to about 109% or so

          When you raise power target your cards may boost higher, so it is possible that one card was pushed too far.

          I would suggest to try each one individually to see which one.

            3770K @ 5.4ghz -45c || evga z77 ftw || 2x evga gtx680 sc sig || 8gb 2.4ghz cl10 || 480gb vertex3 raid0

            thanks for the reply man will do is it normal that the cards to do this since they are rated for stock clockign and i guess power target increase is basically overclocking? i notice to jacob that the boosts on the 2 cards is 1175+ with the power target increase but the one card is only 1100 which is a lot for cards that i think are supposed to boost to 1046 i think normally
