EVGA SuperNOVA Software Sneak Peek Wednesday, July 18, 2012 11:27 AM (permalink)
The upcoming SuperNOVA NEX1500 PSU will have many cool new features, quality individually sleeved wires (with no heatshrink visible!), a 12gauge power cable, ability to switch between single/multi rails, adjustable +12V rail, OC mode and much more.

One of the cool features is ability to control and monitor several of the key features via software! (over USB) Below are some of the functions that this will offer.

Here is the main monitoring window, here you can monitor many areas of the PSU (even more than pictured here), you can also customize it to show 2, 4 or 6 items.

You can also see the history/trending for all items:

Some items you can tweak! Like +12V rail, fan curve or the temperature readout:

Here is where you can enable OC mode, or switch between single and multi rail mode. OC mode allows for up to 1650W power draw but you need a 230 VAC input.

Stay tuned for more details on the EVGA PSU and SuperNOVA software soon!

Is the polling actually going to be fast enough to monitor ripple without massive overhead? This seems like it has the potential to be truly sexy, but from any other brand I would just automatically expect gimmick. You guys get benefit of the doubt just for being EVGA, but still, it sounds almost too good to be true.

Hi JingleHell, the NEX1500 does not provide ripple measurements. It does however provide voltage, current, power, and efficiency measurements.

The pictures are only examples, the software was running in a demo mode that generates random numbers, which is why the voltage graph looks like ripple. In real use, the voltage graph should show a near-perfect constant value with only slight fluctuation, if any.

          Sorry for the misunderstanding

Due to this feature, the PSU were push back. I am pretty sure EVGA test it over and over, specially the mad scientist (Kingpin), so i really trust what Jacob is saying. This is make it or break it for EVGA and their PSUs line. If these products are successful, man, we are going to see a whole new level of PSUs coming from the competition, thanks to EVGA breaking the norm with this.

That's pretty much why I'm not just automatically assuming stupid marketing hype. That plus their reputation. But I'd still love to hear the hard numbers, especially independently verified.

Asking for that isn't some sort of insult, it's a show of faith that I'd even bother asking them. If another brand was saying they were releasing this, I'd just be adding a component to the "do not touch list" with Apevia and Diablotek. (Among others)

Hey are there any numbers as far as output and amperage for this power supply. I was wondering if it can fully power a tri-sli 580 setup with a x58 6 core. As it stands now I have some power supply issues.

The NEX1500 has a 124A +12V rail (133A in OC Mode). We've tested it with overclocked SR-2 and four 580 Classy's, and it runs perfectly.

What's with the sleeved cables having PCI-E M/B ETC stamped on the connectors?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having nice looking cables?

Hey are there any numbers as far as output and amperage for this power supply. I was wondering if it can fully power a tri-sli 580 setup with a x58 6 core. As it stands now I have some power supply issues.

My Antec 1200w unit can handle 3-way 580s just fine.

I'm doing that currently with an Antec TPQ 1200W.  You will have plenty of room to spare with this unit, PLENTY:)

Any chance there will be an API for the software?

All of my code to manage my rigs are written against NVIDIA's ESA standard (an OPEN standard btw - free USB HID specifications to implement for things like this).   I have all of the usb.org documentation for it, if needed.  It's really really simple over the USB HID interface.

If not, humm...  Maybe I can write one for you guys?  To expose the ESA standard so Nvidia System Tools can pick it up?

Btw, I've been working on my own non-Nvidia software to talk to ESA devices too, since people do use ATI cards as well.

What is the benefit of being able to switch between single and multi rails? Or just "because we can." :P

Multi-rail mode gives additional protection against certain types of short circuits; single-rail makes it easier to power extremely high-draw components like TECs or LN2 cooled GPUs. A lot of users have trouble deciding; so we let you pick.

Also, will we be able to use two of these in the same system?  I might end up needing more than 1650W for my 8 GPU render farm...

I know my wiring can handle it, I've wired it so that I can have 5x 1000W photographic lamps when I need them in the room

Yes you can. In fact, we make it easier for you by providing a function that forces the PSU on even if it isn't connected to a motherboard (this is equivalent to the paperclip trick where you short the green PS_ON wire to ground). This makes it easier than ever before to run multiple PSUs since there's no need for devices like Add2PSU, or to use the paperclip trick, or even have the 24-pin connector attached at all.
