Gonna give this Over-clocking thing one more final bash. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:01 AM (permalink)
OK guys/gals, so I'm back.

I have decided not to give up and I am going to give this overclocking thing one more final bash. Now I do not nor have I ever claimed to be a computer overclocking genius so forgive me if there are mistakes made (there will be) , as you will be able to see from my previous threads/posts, i got pretty far with my previous exploits but never actually as close as I wanted to to my target.

OK so here goes.

I have JUST got my machine to be Lin X STABLE on a 50 pass run at FULL memory (24 GB G-Skill DDR3), problem size: 53677

1st Question:
Would you guys regard this as stable???

I'm targeting my RAM clocks as close to stock as possible (which is 1600Mhz), for the current overclock of the CPU I have had to under-clock them to 1338Mhz

My CPU is currently running at just shy of 4Ghz (BIOS states 4002Mhz but Windows utilities see it just shy of 4 GHz) and obviously ideally i would like to push this as high as I can (within reason)

So to aid my aching hands I will stop typing now, and I will put together the COMPLETE CURRENT TEMPLATE of this bulletproof stable (according to Lin X, not tried P95 on it yet) OC, which I will hope to get posted up by tonight.

Thanks in advance to all of you and I really to appreciate the ridiculous level of help/support that there is on these forums.

Martin

Mind posting a BIOS template and all of your hardware? How high do you want to go?

Well TBH I'm not sure how high my system/cooling will be able to go, I'm going to put together a Template and post it in the next few hours.

I do have a custom water cooling system though so lets say hmmm if i got to around 4.5Ghz 100% stable WITH RAM at or around stock I would be beyond ecstatic, but TBH, I'm not sure I will be able to push that far keeping temps respectable.

Like i said i will post template shortly for you guys to feast your eyes over.

      and thanks

Couldn't get it to embed the photo link for some reason so here is a link to the pic. (My LinX results, even my VREG temps rarely went above 72 degrees)

What are you cooling your proc with?
4.5 is a bit steep, and might not be possible, especially at with 24gb AND retaining that memory speed.  From what I have seen, most memory controllers really don't want to push that much memory that fast at a high OC.
I have a 930 and I had to bump up VCore and VTT pretty heavily to restabalize my OC going from 6 to 12gb at 4.2.  Not saying it is impossible, but without REALLY good cooling, a lot of voltage and some good luck with a very solid memory controller, I would say not likely at all.

Sorry forgot to include my cooling apparatus, I have the EK Supreme HF water-block on my CPU and on My GPU I also have the EK Full coverage Water Block. It's in 1 loop with 1 Reservoir and 1 360 mm 3x120mm radiator the XSPC one.

Is there any other method to raise the RAM clocks other than just increasing the FSB:RAM ration?? I can get it stable using 2:8 which give me 1394Mhz but if i try to raise it to 2:10 it gives me stock 1600Mhz speeds but ONLY shows 7GB of usable RAM in my machine.

Is there any other way that I should be able to get the ratio of the RAM stable using 2: 10 and STILL show all 24GB RAM, or is that just not possible?

Overclock the CPU is another way. But if you have disappearing RAM that is something you are going to have to solve first.
Try the 2:10 and increase this CPU VTT Voltage (AUTO) +0mv to CPU VTT Voltage +150 or +200
That is responsible for the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) and if not high enough will cause your missing memory issue. There are other things that can cause the issues as well. There are some instances, depending on how weak the IMC is, you may need to increase the CPU VTT to +300 and in some cases as high as +350. That is not very common though. But the more RAM you have and if you populate all the DIMM slots, the bigger the load on the IMC and the more voltage you need.

Well I tried the above suggestion and my chip doesn't like the VTT on anywhere up to +350 tried all voltages before that and it wont let me run the RAM at 2:10 so I guess for me my RAM is going to have to stay at 2:8 that gives me around 1440 Mhz with a CPU clock of 4.129Mhz so far.

Honestly you won't see the difference.
I suggest you have a look at this thread though. It is possible issues with the missing Memory.

Yeah I'm going to just roll with the fact that I probably wont get my RAM any faster than it currently is, but as it wont make that much difference I'm not too bothered, what I will do shortly though is post my latest stable template and a couple of screenies to give you guys an idea of the sort of awesome temps I'm getting.

Still a bit shy of target CPU clock although I'm sure it an still go higher. It's currently at 4.1 Ghz

Again I'm not sure how to embed pics so the above to pics are my current stable results going by using intel burn test on max memory maximum stress, lasted close to 8 hours I think and finished without error, I LOVE the temps its giving me on the CPU cores AND the VREG, but I'm certain that it can be pushed further than 4.1Ghz seen as the only voltage I have raised so far is the Vcore on the CPU.

Please see updated template of my stable config below. Any suggestions to getting the clock higher and still stable will be MUCH appreciated.
