No.  Media Shield is the RAID control software.  It allows you to manipulate your RAID from Windows.  Your issue is simply a glitch in either the bios or the driver in use for the SATA controller.

What bios version are you on?  Have you tried to update it if it is an older one or reflash it even if it is the newest one?

Try using the Microsoft controller vice the Nvidia controller.  To install the Microsoft controller please follow these instructions:
        1.  Go to Device Manager and find "Storage Controller" and click it.  There will see a few Nvidia controller drivers. You will need to replace each one with Microsoft’s "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller".  To do so, right click on one of the controllers, then click on Properties, then click "Update Driver".  Next, click "Browse" for drivers, then click “Browse my computer”, then "Let me pick".  You should be presented with a pop-up, and you should see "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" from Microsoft as one of the choices, and that is the one to select.
        2.  Repeat the process for the other two Nvidia controllers.  Once you have changed all of the Nvidia controllers to Microsoft controllers, you will be required to reboot the system to implement the changes.  After you reboot, you should check the controllers in Device Manager to verify that all of the changes were implemented.  To do so, go to Device Manger, then click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller, and you should see the Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller drivers.

You are correct.  This model of motherboard does not support AHCI.

The only possible solution I see remaining is to perform a clean installation.  I did not install the Nvidia chipset suite.

nope, but i am thinking maybe a format and a fresh reinstall of windows because i know  at first it was a pain in the a$$ to get windows to install, it took 3 attempts before it fainlly went and completed so possible that might be a issue, i dont really wanna flash the bios if everything else seems to be working correctly?

Have you considered upgrading to Windows 7 or 8?  I don't understand why it took three attempts to install Vista....that alone speaks of a problem either with the DVD, DVD burner, motherboard chipset, or the hard drive.  Are you using a Vista DVD with the service packs already included?

Vista and it fighting the install.... that sounds familiar. Is it a disk with Vista SP0 and how much memory do you have on the board? There was a glitch with those disks that did not allow for install with more than 2GB of RAM during install.

If it does not say Service pack * on the disk, then it is a SP0 disk and it likely has the glitch related to 2GB+ memory during install.

it's fully loaded complete with all serve packs

The point I was trying to make was that the issues that you were experiencing with loading Vista could be related to your Vista disk being a version that did not want to install with more than 2Gb of RAM.  If I am correct about your Vista disk, then perhaps you might consider VistaHead's recommendation of a reinstall of Vista or an upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.

Also, can you please check what bios version you are running?  If you need help figuring this out, please ask.

It does... You are running P10.  That is the bios version.

This is the latest version of the bios, but I would still recommend a reflash of the bios.  The CD method is safe as long as you burn the CD at the slowest possible speed that your drive can do.

so a fresh install of windows first to try is out of the question?

Bios reflash is easier and much less time consuming. I would suggest that first.

Burn the image using a low burn speed (2x), reboot to the CD and follow the flash instructions.  After you flash the BIOS, clear you CMOS according to the motherboard User's Manual instructions, then boot into your BIOS and input your previous settings, save the changes and exit the BIOS.

....and make sure you downloaded the .iso file not the .exe or .bin file.  The .iso file is the self contained CD image for bios flashing.

I answered that question in your last thread.  The both of the EVGA 780i motherboards do not use the jmicron controller.  It was only the EVGA 790i motherboards that did.

Here's what it comes down to in your situation, the OS is thinking your drives are SCSI.  They are obviously not.  It is a glitch that is just misidentifying your drives.  It does not hurt performance.  Its like when you go to the DMV and put your name in as Miguel and they wind up writing down Michael.  Your name is still Miguel even through they didn't identify you right.

My final recommendation is to try a different OS.  I would suggest Windows 7 or Windows 8 for the long term, but Windows XP SP2 or SP3 will also work.   Even better, if this was a true SCSI environment, Windows XP will not load without additional drivers added via floppy or slipstreamed into the install CD.  If an XP install fails because it can not find hard drives, then you have something wrong with your bios configuration that is setting the controller to RAID even though you are not running it.
