I step on "lost" USB sticks.  Data you don't have 3 backups of is data you don't care about.

I would always plug it into a extra system I have that I don't care about to check it and format it if I found one.

Eh, if I find em I don't bother seeing what's on em I erase them and put portable apps on them then give em to ppl whose PC's i've worked on. that way in case they mess things up (like uninstall IE) they will have a browser and other things to get them by till i show up.

If they are more than 4 gigs I keep em and use em for windows install drives or something.

If anyone happens to find one in the hi desert area that is purple and black (8 gigs) it's mine. I had all kinds of cool stuff on there too.

I learned from my mistake and now if I take them with me, I attach a lanyard or a long bright string to them. I lost one for a month one time and I happened to go back to a job on a dirt road and found it again, I should have learned my lesson that time.

How do you loose them thats what I want to know. My thumb drive's are in a zipper compartment with my laptop because I only use them for work not personal storage, my personal backup is a 3tb External drive + cloud storage lol.

I usually put them in my safety vest front pocket so I can watch tv shows or movies on my work tablet during lunch in my truck. If I put them in my normal pocket, they may get washed (I have done it a few times and they are still working!) the problem is, I usually take it out and put it in my cup holder in the truck but sometimes I forget and when I am out in the field, I will bend over and it will fall out. The front pockets have Velcro in the middle but they have just enough of an opening on the sides to let them slide out.

A few times, they will fall out of the cup holder and fall between the mobile tablet carrier mounted on the floorboard on the passengers side. I checked there though...

My tablet at work has everything blocked. We have a usb aircard but all exe are blocked as well as 99.9% of internet sites on explorer. Good thing they didn't think about firefox on a usb stick and vlc mobile media player. WHA HA HA! I just install everything on a hidden folder and just in case they need to update my maps or something, I hide or delete the folder. I don't think they even care really. I was told one time that my data transmission was high and was told to "fix it" so I don't play all the flash games and watch all the youtube stuff I used to. ROFL
That's why I use flash drives
