DIMM slots 3 & 4 not working Monday, July 09, 2012 12:54 PM (permalink)
I had issues with my RAM and Sandy Bridge. Replaced the RAM, still couldnt set it over 1333. I just replaced my 2600K with a 3770K. Now DIMM slots 3 and 4 arent working.

If I put 1 stick in slot 1 or 2, or 2 in slot 1 and 2 it works fine. If I put any in slots 3 or 4, I get post code 55 and no boot. It doesnt matter if I have a stick in slot 1, 2, just 3 or 4, or any combination. I always get code 55 if a stick is in slot 3 or 4.

I have Kingston 2133 2x 8GB. They worked in the 2 red slots just 1 hour ago with my 2600K. The only thing I changed was installing the 3770K and resetting the CMOS. I can overclock them to 2000, no boot with anything over that, and 3770K is overclocked to 4.6. It does it whether the RAM or cpu are overclocked or not.

Is there anything I could have hit while replacing the cpu to disable slots 3 and 4?

Examine the settings in the memory overclocking area.  at the bottom, there' s anther menu.  Just make sure all the dimm banks are enabled.  Other than that, I don't know

I checked that and both are enabled. The only change from when this RAM was working in the red slots was the 3770K. Would it make 2 slots (3 and 4) not work? And give post code 55 even though a stick is in slot 1 or 2?

I checked the timings from the other thread about post code 55, like the 2T, and that doesnt seem to be the problem.

EDIT: So Ive been looking around at other forums from searching Google for the problem, and I think maybe I bent a pin when installing the 3770K. Tonight or this weekend I will check for bent pins, and reinstall the 2600K to see if the 2 slots work with it.

        No bent pins.
        Put 2600K back in.
        Tried different RAM.

Nothing working. Always get post code 55 with a stick in 3 or 4. Sent email to tech support. Maybe have to RMA.

I bet that's what you need to do.

1 more questions I was just thinking of. When I push the clip down on top of the 3770K to lock it in, it makes a crunching noise like its pushing hard on the pins. I noticed the 2600K didnt do this. I compared the 2, and it looks like the 3770K is a little taller. Did anyone else notice this? Maybe my clip was slightly off, and it made the 3770K crush some pins or something.
