In the top two slots they will be 16X as long as you do not have anything in the third.

Yeah, that's what sucks about this MOBO. To get x16/x16 speeds, you have to sandwich the cards together in PCIe slots #1&2, then ensure nothing is installed in PCIe slot #3. This is terrible, because if you have a PCIe sound card (like SB's X-Fi Titanium) you won't be able use it. To make matters even worse, installing a GPU into PCIe slot #2 blocks the FP audio header on the mobo, which means you won't be able to plug 3.5mm headphones into the front audio ports on your case. This is a bad layout and I wouldn't have bought the board if I had known this. Back when I purchased this board, Newegg advertised it as x16/x16/x8, when in reality it's x16/x8/x8. This wasn't a big deal at first, because the older GPU's aren't held back by PCIe 2.0 x8 slots, however that's not the case anymore. My secondary GTX 670 takes a 9% performance hit in a x8 slot, so I definitely want to upgrade to a better board in the future.
Motherboard: EVGA E758 A1 CPU: Core i7 920@4Ghz DRAM: OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600 Graphics: EVGA GTX 670's in SLI (2-way) PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 1KW (W0155) Case: Corsair 800D Storage: Seagate 1.5 TB, x2 640GB HDD's in RAID 0, WD Black 1TB Audio: Creative SB X-Fi Titanium Display's: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2410 H-IPS LCD's

The difference between 8 and 16 with those cards is going to be negligible. 2-3% roughly which translates to 1-3 FPS. So it depends on what is more important to you, cooler cards, or another 1-3 FPS.
