H100 PUSH/PULL Sunday, June 24, 2012 12:24 AM (permalink)
Im setting up a new rig, with the corsair 800d, i was wondering what kind of fans should i get for the h100? Silent yet have good cooling to keep the temperature low in a push pull config (if thats best) considering that i will be ocing my 3930k to @ least 4.6.

First time ordering a watercooling set, so im not sure what else i need for the h100, recommendations on a fan controller?
TIA!

4.6 on a 130W chip without a custom loop seems kinda harsh, that is of course unless you live in a freezer.

    - Secondary MicroATX Z77

    - Mini-ITX H77 Home Server

For a fan controller, pick out your favorite one from Lamptron.  They make some of the best.  As for fans on your H100, "silent" is subjective and a DBA range would help a lot more.  You won't be able to get that overclock with very low CFM/static pressure fans, since the H100 has poor airflow.  Check out the Noctua NF-F12, specs wise it beats the GentleTyphoon AP-15 in just about every way and Noctua makes top quality fans.  Or wait for the upcoming noise cancelling version which will supposedly be 1000 RPM faster and have similar noise.

Well what owuld be the best fans to gett he full cooling potentional for the h100?
I was thinking "quiet" by getting gentle typhoons.
I would say under 20dba, am sure thats quiet enough for me, but id like to have two recommended options for quiet and good cooling potential fans for the H100.

-Lamptron fan controllers, it would be my firstt ime using one of these controllers, is it easy to hook up and recommened for the h100?
          Thanks :).

If you want sub 20 DBA fans then forget about really high overclocks, especially if your ambient temps are high.  If the H100 is like the other Corsair hydro coolers, then the fin density is around 20 FPI, maybe a little less.  Judging by the pics, this appears to be true.  In this case you don't want to get sub 20 DBA fans if you want around 4.6 GHz.  Since you're getting a fan controller, it would be wise to get these and undervolt them if necessary.

sounds good, shall i replace the corsair fans tht came with the h100 or are those good?
-undervolting would just be hooking up the fans to the fan controller correct?

The H100 fans are pretty good imo, and Corsair sells them in kits of 2 if you wanted to get 4 total. Not the quietist though at 22-39db, but they also have a static pressure of up to 7.7mm/H2O.

Get 2x sets of these for push/pull, they're designed for radiator use.

Only 3.1 mmH2O static pressure and 62.74 CFM at 35 DBA?  That's pretty bad.  A pair of Yate Loons costs about half the price and offer much more static pressure.

Scythe GentleTyphoons undervolt very well, but only replace the stock fans if they aren't doing the job for you.
