Linux for sure, you won't get them with Windows (or at least I never could after the change last Nov/Dec). Run your 3930K on up to 4Ghz or better and use the -Bigbeta argument instead of -Bigadv (works better for most people for some reason). I'm processing 6901s, 6903s and occasionally a 6904 on my hexa (980X at 4Ghz) and finishing all well ahead of the deadlines for bonus points. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, but you can use Mint12, and others too. Go get 'em!!!

Use this link to a guide on setting up -bigadv folding with Ubuntu. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1601608 Just rember when you set your flags to use -bigbeta instead of -bigadv. Otherwise you will get the substandard 8108 WU's instead of the 69XX series which give better PPD and can be copleteted on time by intel systems. Just a note on using Ubuntu, if you try to install it as a dual boot with windows you will not be able to set it to file ext3 like the guide shows. If you do a fresh install then you will be able to. Edit: all you need is the OS and thekraken installed. You really do not need the rest of the add ons.

for me...yes I do... Im a past linux user, so having bells and whistles is nice I like tinkering and developing software - since I used to do it for x11 I'll look into setup for linux, after I run a batch under v7 and win7

Sorry to intrude, but I'm just curious. How many PPD can you expect on a 3930K? I'm a bit enticed on an offer my friend is making me on one.
i7-870 @ 3.4 / P55 Classified 200 / 16GB DDR3-1600 G.SKILL Ripjaws X Two-Way Zotac GTX 580 SLI @ 825/1650/2004 / Silverstone Strider Plus 1000W CM Hyper 612 / CM Storm Stryker CM Storm Trigger / CM Sentinel Advanced

From what I've read, you can skip using "The Kraken" on a single socket system since it was created to solve issues on "multi-socket" systems. I use it on my SR-2, but not on my 980X. If you want to read all about it from the guy that wrote it (Tear), it is in this thread which he keeps up to date: http://www.amdzone.com/ph...php?f=521&t=138463 One word for those using hexacore systems for Bigadvs, you don't need to be concerned about receiving the 810X Bigadvs on a hexacore because that WU requires seeing 16 threads. The servers will not issue you one when they see that you have just 12 threads via your hexacore. On my 980X, dedicated Folding, under Ubuntu, at 4.0Ghz, here's my PPD from the (3) Bigadv WUs that I consistently get: 6901 - 63,650 6903 - 88,347 6904 - 82,196 As you can see, the 6903 is the "sweet spot" of the 3 WUs for PPD.

Just so you know as texinga said you do not need the bigbeta flag or the kraken on a 6 core 12 thread single socket setup. You can use the bigadv flag, but if you choose to not run the kraken then you will need to run the generic-ck version of Linux which uses the BFS scheduler. Also you should use ext3 file system If you follow the instructions and advice in the link that Hovart provided you should maximize your PPD and have no problems.

problem is it has ext4 already installed the manual install did not go well - so I used the simple window/linux dual boot install that installs ext4 rather than ext3

No worries Xavier, the ext4 file system used with the Windows/Linux dual boot install (Ubuntu WUBI installer) does not cause an issue for Folding. That installation method (while using the ext4 file system) does not have the problem that people avoid by using the ext3 file system and discrete installs of Linux. That is one of the beauties IMO of using the Ubuntu WUBI installer and it is easier for the non-techie Linux types. I know that is not you, but I just wanted to pop-in and let you know that your particular install method will not have the problem with lengthy file processing times.
