WCG Badge hunter alert: DDDT2 Wet season to start Thursday, June 21, 2012 1:32 PM (permalink)
Within the next 8 hours the next Discovering Dengue Drugs Together 2 (aka DDDT2) is having another Monsoon lasting for a few days.
https://secure.worldcommu...732_offset,2180#382217

To increase your chances of getting some:
-first increase your buffer to ~1/2 day, and let some of your regular tasks download (not necessary any more, since the rainfall has started)
- then make the profile DDDT2 exlusive (don´t allow other projects, it runs on a low priority, meaning other projects get priority)
-update the profile in your  boinc manager (have it communicete with wcg)
-increase your buffer to a few days

My nets are already out, good luck fishing to all

edit: and I have a feeling as if new tasks have been put into the feeder for everyone.

There is something broken in their work distribution system.  My12-core system has 54 tasks, while my 24-core systems ran overnight with 1 task each.  By constantly updating, I have one of them up to 7 tasks.  So, some systems are being limited, and others are not.

                        Hi Punchy,
First its not 70 pages of completed, but everything combined. (in reference to your post at the wcg forums)

On some of my rigs I have built up quite a nice queue (one 2600k, a 970 and dual 6176s), whereas on others I just barely can keep all cores occupied. Granted that still beats just getting one or two at a time.
Only thing I could imagine is that there´s somehow an internal rating of rigs (history of return times, error rate etc)

Well... I am not getting any. In fact I am now getting ones I already have blue leveled. Last 12+ hours no change...

haven't gotten any, either....  it keeps telling me they're all tasked to other systems....

Edit:  On another note, it seems like the Lattice Project has work again for anyone attached to it that wants something other than WCG for a bit....

I can't fathom the distribution system.  My main rig is getting nothing, but one that i have temporary use of (only for 1 more day sadly) keeps getting them.

                              Most annoying.

Ok, I think I've worked it out.  The system Appears not to like you having more than 1 rig and will prioritize the first one that you attached to the project.
If you are running muliple rigs, it seems that you need to load up on workunits as per Barbarossas' instructions, the go back into the Boinc manager, remove DDDT2 from that computers tasks, the add it to your other computers task list, update the project from BOINC, and hopefully you will get tasks on your second rig.

I only found this because I removed DDDT2 from one of my computers and all of a sudden the other one that had been getting nothing started getting tasks.

May have been a coincidence, so give it a try.

We´re about halfway through the current shower.
                                  So how´s everybody doing?
I see Tanner2 is already in Bronze territory, possibly even silver.

So don´t give up yet. Also in the not too distant future, there´s gonna be another DDDt2 rush.

                                  Dear Volunteers,

I have submitted Type C units for dg05 groups c and d. If it goes through the internal test of the grid, it will be given soon.
I am preparing 500 work units from my Virtual screen of Dengue. It should be out in a couple of weeks.
I am also working on the work units with the new optimal code and the alpha test calculations of pre-runs are running fine.

Looking forward to a great summer with a lot of work done.
                                  Dr. Usha Viswanathan

Coming along.  Should hopefully have bronze soon. I have 10 pages of results in the PV vault.
Currently burning through c412 series at 45mins per unit.
Hopefully I'll get enough units to get to silver, that might be pushing it though.  See what the next few days brings.

nice points return on these units.
looks to be about 25-40% more than normal.

I made it to silver, gold next update.
Doing about 29 days run time every 12 hour update with them.
I've been lucky. All 4 rigs just keep getting them with no help from me.
                                        3 linux, 1 xp 64bit
Now if I could just get that beta badge. 3 run days away.
                                        edit to 12 hour update

Simba, when supply dries up and you have still a nice queue, set your 2600k back to defaults.  Increases your run time on individual
tasks. So you get more runtime out of your queue
For the badge (based on runtime) it doesn´t matter whether you finish a task in 1h or 2.

                                            lol!
I'd rather keep it running full out.
It's winter here in the southern hemisphere so I'm using it as a space heater!
plus, the sooner I burn through my cache, the quicker I can move onto something else.

My 12-core system has quite a good queue - probably the 3 days' worth that I requested.  My 32-core system has had a maximum of maybe a dozen more units than cores, and yesterday it again was down to only 2 cores running.  I have a script running to do an update every 5 minutes, but I shouldn't need to do that.  I'd really like to know what the issue is with their work allocation.
The only difference I can identify is that the system working well is running a v6.x BOINC client, while the underutilized system is running a 7.x client.  Their profiles are identical.

Hm Punchy, on the v7 client I moticed on thing yesterday.
You can set a minimum and maximum queue...
I kept wondering the same thing. Those 2 were the only ones only running a minimum queue.
Changing the minimum queue up from the default 0.00 days helped solving the problem then overnight

Thanks Barbarossa, I wish it were that easy for me to fix, but I already had the minimum set to 3 days and the additional set to 2 more days.
I shouldn't complain, though, because I still have gotten bronze and will probably be close to silver.  If I could get 3 days' buffer on the 32-core before the supply dries up then I would be getting close to gold.

I think you were right about some sort of "qualification process" built in to the WCG servers.  The system that is getting plenty of work has a much longer WCG history than the one that doesn't.  I also noticed that one of the first, if not precisely the first, DDDT2 unit that the starving system returned was an error.  Even though 3 other users all returned errors for that same unit as well, that might have marked it as a "bad" system.

Not sure why you need a script to do updates.
I'm running 6.10.58, and if the cache is not full, it automatically sends an update request every 2 minutes or so.  Which must be somewhat painful for the servers, but it's nice for me!

just sending back one errored out task doesn´t make a difference. I´ve errorered out ~300 tasks across 2 systems Saturday,
and kept getting work. One system was set back to 1 task per day for about 10 min...
Which cpus do you have in that 32 core system (see my pm)
That could have something to do with assignment
