texinga For the individual stats question (via Troy), my only concern would be that it not demotivate people that have smaller numbers and Folding capabilities. If we want the focus to be on "Team" effort, then individual stats might shift things in another direction. It is easy enough for any of us to maintain our own stats which I have done from the beginning. But if the overall team wants individual stats, then I'm OK with it too. My $.02 - I've been party of just 2 Challenges / Contest. The Chimp Challenge (CC) that didn't have individual stats and the March Madness that did have individual stats. Of the two I felt the March Madness was ALOT more motivating and team building than the CC. Certainly the format was more interested and it wasn't just the individual stats. As a team member I felt accountable for my performance for my team and if I saw one of my teammate "slacking". I was able to send a motivating / harassing note to encourage better performance!

texinga If we don't get our Team production up, that crossover point between [H] and EVGA could be coming months before our target/prize-date. We're back down again and our short-term trend is on a pretty visible decline. The thing holding back that crossover is that [H] is also in a decline from where thy had been, but they are still out-producing us every day. Summer must be taking its annual Folding toll on all of us... Gonna get in contact with Rob and see where things stand, otherwise we might have to resort to home grown methods to recruit.

One idea would be to allow people to set a points goal for a month, and then see if they can hit it. Yes, obviously we have folders of all shapes and sizes, but a goal would be to make people realize that our small folders are our greatest asset. We are a large of small folders (with a few large folders at the top of our ranks), and if 1,000 people can add 10,000 points per day on average (i.e. single GPU), we add 10,000,000 points per day! Far more valuable than 4 or 5 people adding 1,000,000 points per day!

"I'm given it all she's got Captain" as the saying goes. Heard that...being a native Texican, I know how hot it can get there (even in June)! To anyone who can Fold in the heat of the Summer months, my hat is always off to them. It's not easy to choose "adding heat" to your home when it's hot enough to fry an egg on your front porch. Folding makes me look forward to Fall in a new way each year now. And for anyone on our Team that can't Fold because of environment, utility spikes, down rigs/parts, etc, its OK and please hang with us in the Forums anyway. We still need your ideas, technical help and other things that are very valuable to the Team.

It feels more like a "team" to me because we don't depend upon a few individuals/heavy hitters, and we all carry the load together.

I'm both legs in, I try to fold for every second when I don't use the PC for something else. I'll do my best to continue with this practice, even after January 1st, no matter if we're first or not! FOLD ON

Great initiative troy8d! Without reading your vs [H] web site premise thoroughly, I signed up, no hesitation. There's some hardware coming my way that I want to push the boundaries on. It will mean adding almost 600W of heating to an already warm small room starting just before the summer sizzle. And I might cry if I fire my wimpy 5000 BTU AC directly into my case but can't keep up with the cooling. But then there are other months toward December which aren't so bad. Maybe it's the opposite for southern hemisphere people like Shykal. What a concept-a 6-month folding contest! It should create more 'teamsmanship' and stronger bonds among our comrades.
What can you do with several pieces of scrap aluminum, access to a metal worker and some free time?

I've got the SR-2 opened full bore with 20 threads (I have to leave 4 free or everything grinds to a halt when I use it) of SMP. 5k BTU AC is barely able to maintain 85F in here, but it's working. If it's looking dire, lemme know, I'll kick over the box of GX2's and start melting my neighbors 4 states away.

I don't know which Gulftown Xeons you're running but that's only in the 400s of watts, assuming worse case (PSU not efficient, 2X130W TDP) and no GPU folding. The dual-PSU folding monster I plan to assemble is expected to burn through twice that. And that's not the only computer running 24/7 in the same room. So you're saying your similar AC could barely keep up?! Aww, you are willing to create sympathy pains for yourself and innocent bystander neighbours in a 4 state radius just for me? How nice. Actually, I am more optimistic than I lead on. I am inspired to craft a duct that will recirculate the exhaust heat into the portable AC, which will push some of it out the window. It needs to work well b/c I can't run that air conditioner for long times. troy8d Look forward to a big prize announcement in the very near future! Yay, many of us could use another good heater come January!

It's encouraging to read about all the team-mates that are still able to Fold-in-Hell...so, roast a hot-dog while we're at it! Always good to hear about rigs that are being put into summer use and the new rigs to come. If you can't Fold right now, it's understandable and jump back-in when you can. I was pleased to see our Folding number climb back up to 20,394,528 for today. Fold on fire you Hell-fighters!!!

As for sympathy pains, I have no sympathy. If everyone is miserable, then so be it, but the most I can do is angle the GX2's in some random direction so they melt something else.

EVGA is going to help us rally the troops very soon (as soon as Friday) - is there anything else we want/need to do to prepare for this guys? We should be able to begin tracking individual stats this weekend for all those entered in the challenge. When I get home this evening I will create a clean thread to kick off the challenge and track our progress and individual efforts (as some have already started doing now). The purpose of this thread was mainly to garner feedback beforehand so that things will (hopefully) go smoothly. Also will be posting a very generous gift donation from blkhole this evening as well.

There's a lot of things working against me lately it seems, and I know I'm not the only one with issues such as heat and and higher electricity costs and going back to stock clocks, but it is the reality of the situation. All the WU's I've been getting recently are the worst ones ppd/wise that anyone can get. I'll struggle with my stated goal of 50k ppd at least in the immediate future. Like tex, I hope I can contribute knowledge to new folders and help in that area and wait out the storm as comfortably as possible. Good luck to everyone! Thank's Troy, for running with this.

I'm not 24/7 but I do try to get points in daily. Specially after moving in all, I'm not at the computer as much to fold like I used to. And after my 2nd rig HD died, some reason after I installed the folding program its not engaging the gpu to fold. Anywho, you can count on me!

ok, i'm one uniting everything. well, my two GPU's and my CPU. just a one unit a day while I sleep i think will be about all I can do. I don't want to use too much power.
Man is capable of as much atrocities as he has imagination. To err is human, to blame someone else is good management skills People are, well, only human. We know that. The rule of law is borne out in identifying, condemning, and punishing those who violate the standards on which we all agree. This is exactly what we do in America. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

Keep it up everybody. Sadly I'm going to have to sit out for a while. Had to sell a couple parts to get some cash. Hope to be back up and running in the near future. But for now my 80k to 100k will only be a measly 5k ppd. But any points are good points.

Every point counts and every bit of science helps the worldwide effort to get closer to what draws us all to Folding/Crunching. For anyone that can't Fold/Crunch or has to reduce effort, please never feel that you are letting us down. We know you, your heart is in it and we look forward to when you can rejoin the effort. The wide variety of Folders, equipment and the team spirit that we enjoy is the strength of this Team. Thank-you all... PS: What's the latest with the EVGA message to rally the troops? Sure hope we will see something soon so we can get to work on expanding the team and the cures. There is some good feedback/progress coming from the FAH Researchers and it's a great time to be helping them get this work done.
