P55-132 USB Issues - Slow POST & Undetected Drives Tuesday, June 19, 2012 6:35 PM (permalink)
So I have two issues with my system, both with USB.  One is during POST, which is almost certainly the mobo's fault, and the other is in Windows 7 x64.

POST: It hangs on "Auto Detecting USB Mass Storage Device" when I have a usb hdd plugged in. Doesn't take all day, but a good 2 minutes.  Makes me thing something is wrong.

Win7 - USB HDD don't seem to work. My other usb stuff is fine, but cameras and hdd fail to install properly. Device manager gives a Code 10 (Cannot start [MS shorthand for "We don't know the problem"]). They don't show up in Disk Manager, and of course there's nothing in My Computer.  This has been happening for a while (A year?), but I'm finally fed up with it enough to ask around.  It's annoying that my old thumb drives work, but new stuff seems to fail.  I had my camera working for about a month, but then it stopped showing up.  Now it acts like there's no data coming through the line - only power.  But when I plug in my mouse, it's fine.  Any clues?

Bios: A74
Internal HDD: 2x1TB WD Green, 1x320GB Barracuda, 1x320GB Barracuda that only sometimes works (not sure if it's going bad or the mobo again)
PSU: 750W Apevia
CPU: i5 750, no OC
RAM: 2x2GB OCZ 1333 (out of 1600, couldn't get it to run. Mobo again...)
GFX: ASUS ATI EAH6870
EDIT: Additional info after playing around with it.  Plugging in my camera doesn't even phase the Device Manager - nothing shows up.  The HDD I've been trying to connect installs the USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge, and then after a few seconds goes to Code 10.  Both devices work fine on other computers.

Sounds like you might need to do a fresh Windows install with all new drivers.
