So many problems with the GTX 670 SC - Evga displays why they are the best! Saturday, May 12, 2012 9:46 AM (permalink)
I was going to purchase one of these cards last night...  I have seen many threads and many people complaining about receiving bad cards - bsod's/desktop freezing/and major artifacting.  What is going on?  Is this lack of quality control?

I haven't heard you guys respond to any of these threads, so it makes me a little nervous about purchasing one of these cards (1st batch of cards)...

calm down dude.  you should take your time first before buying the card.  take a couple of days to see how were the reviews before plunging your cash in it.

I saw that Jacob posted in one of the 670 problem threads for people to contact him directly with serial numbers. I'm pretty sure that every card coming off an assembly line is not tested, so it's possible a bad batch could have slipped through. There has been a number of reviews to date and no mention of problems with those cards, so it does sound like a hardware issue and not the driver.

I too was on the verge of ordering a 670 until I began seeing so many thread about artifacting and what not, however like stated above there are a few people, including the guy who has a thread about his 670's in SLI that are working superbly. This is why I always wait a little while before purchasing any new hardware until all of the kinks are worked out.

              Everyone,

The EVGA GeForce GTX 670 just launched, and we are all very excited about the great performance as you are aware. Some customers have just started receiving their cards and playing games on the new 600 series architecture.

On the forums we have noticed several users experiencing artifacting with the Superclocked version (02G-P4-2672-KR). We understand some users frustration about receiving a new product that is not working. Customer satisfaction is EVGA’s top priority and in order to ensure this, I have received special permission to those affected users above to offer an upgrade to the FTW model (02G-P4-2678-KR) with 2nd day cross shipping (in US). Replacement cards will begin processing Monday with shipments planned for Tuesday (5-15-2012).

This issue has already been escalated to top management, and is receiving top priority. We will update on this by Monday end of day.

If you have any concerns or issues with your GTX 670 Superclocked, please register your product and email our Product Manager, Jacob Freeman at jacobf@evga.com with your serial number and detailed issue.

              Thanks,
              Chris Bencivenga
              CS Manager

EVGA - Your customer service model should be held up as an example for the industry.   There is literally nobody else out there that responds as quickly and decisively as you did to this situation.

I'm not even affected by this, but as a result, I will wait as long as it takes to make sure my 600-series card is an EVGA one.

Pretty slick deal for those that received bad cards. The GTX 670 FTW card would be the only GTX 670 I would think about buying.

so are newer produced cards going to be tested before shipping i have a step up waiting(72 in queue) and would like peace of mind that the cars will be another flawless evga product.

Well EVGA can't do anything about the cars you have being flawless but I am sure they will take every necessary step to ensure future shipments of video cards are up to par.

Now.... the other problem is will the EVGA GTX 670 4GB stock and OC face the same crashing/artifacts fate?

Because a EVGA 670 4GB into a EVGA 670 2GB FTW would be a downgrade... unless a FTW 4GB is possible which is HIGHLY unlikely.

Is that due to the fact the 4GB cards will not have a memory OC?
And if so, for those of us waiting for the 4GB cards, will we not be able to OC the memory then?

it isn't only their cards. It's all the 670's right? Even from Asus, etc?

I heard someone make a comment that it wasn't only EVGA. Because these are reference, and the same exact cards, just with different company logos of course.

I have to say something Ive been a fan of the red team for quite some time. I recently returned an asus 7970 dcuii due to deffective reasons. After talking to a friend of mine he convinced me to take a look to the evga gtx 680 lineup. Ive been browsing the forums for
About two weeks now seeking information about the different upcoming models and what not. After seeing evga reaction about this problem i took my time to register in the forum and made this post. I have to say that they have a new customer.

Count me in for the gtx680 classy.

Ive been hanging around the forums following the 600 series closely. Considering the issues are stemming from the SC version, I would say it is EVGA's cards with these specific OC settings.
As ChrisB has said, the recall is for the specific OC'd 670 model, not the reference card.

Man now I kinda want my sc cards to not work, then i could get the ftw cards. Have yet to game as just got them installed. I suspect the lower voltage i saw mentioned on onecreview as the culprit. But as it was said this will not be an issue with other cards it is probably bad memory or gpu run.

                                                        Hello,
I have a question. My EVGA GTX 670 is also artifacting/crashing when playing games; however, i do not own the superclocked model of the card (i have the one with stock clock speeds). Will i still be able to upgrade to the GTX 670 FTW model without any fees?

This is only a problem with EVGA SC cards, there are no problems at all on Gigabyte, galaxy / kfa2 or Asus pre overclocked cards.

I don't understand how EVGA are meant to be the no.1 graphics card company with a problem this significant, they can't even sell working cards, and they didn't even have the full length PCB FTW edition available on launch day.

I've never seen a single card from EVGA that was better than the competition, there's nothing about their products that makes them deserve the No.1 reputation that they and their fanboys claim they have.
