Just Finished Dead Space 2
Saturday, May 05, 2012 8:26 AM

I picked up the CE at Best Buy a while back when it was marked down to $5 and finally got time to sit down and play it. I thought it was fantastic and i'm kinda bummed that I didnt get the first game when it was in the Steam sale a week ago. There's a lot of rumors going around that Dead Space 3 is coming and I really hope that it's not one of those Origin exclusive deals since it is an EA published game. What do you guys think about this series?

I think its an awesome series and I can't wait for DS3. The second one was so amazing and they actually gave a face to Isaac and the story with his creepy 'girlfriend'. Even tho the pc version got screwed for unlockables to play multiple time, I still enjoyed playing it a few times

Both games were awesome. I think I like the first one a little more, I thought it was a little more creepy than the second overall.

The only thing that bugged me about the first one was the awful awful mouse controls. They made the second one so much better in that regard since they heard us screaming and raging about the first one's shortcomings in that dept. If you have an xbox controller, the first one actually might play better with that since they messed up the mouse controls so badly.

I only played the first one. After finishing it, I couldn't bring myself to try the second. After reading how it was a "survival horror game", I was totally disappointed that DS1 was a (boring) shooter with no scares at all. It felt like RE4 but in outer space, and was very repetitive. I heard DS2 had even more action.
peeler05 half of skyrim is traveling or alt tabing to google how to play the game. gutcheck I just left my son in the sink to run upstairs and download Black Mesa

Well this sucks, started the first game and its unplayable. Mouse control while moving is non-existent and I got stuck in the room where you pick up the plasma cutter.... as in I press A to open the door and then cant walk through the opening. Seems like this would be an obvious bug to discover.

willem445 I loved the second one but i have yet to buy the first. So far i've discovered that the only way to get the mouse to work properly is enable vsync in game and lock it to 30fps, turning vsync off makes everything super smooth but the smooth is unusable.... thus using the Xbox 360 controller with vsync disabled. I've noticed that the pacing is a bit different in this game, seems like you return to previous areas more often. They also try to make this one creepy with overly dramatic music with xenomorphs popping out of vents and stuff. Otherwise very similar gameplay. I'm definitely going to play the second one again after I finish the first one.

willem445 You mean necromorphs? Yeah i just read the storyline of DS1 before i played DS2, i dont think ill play DS1 ever. Sure, the monster things, dont care what they're called as long as they die. Yeah I cant honestly recommend DS1 cause I keep running into game breaking bugs left and right. The sad thing is that if you google them, they're well known bugs that the developer apparently couldnt care less to fix for us. So far i've seen them in Ch. 1, 2, and 5. http://deadspace.wikia.com/wiki/Glitches_and_oddities_in_Dead_Space

Yeah , at least they did a good job on DS2, but it does amaze that they just abandoned the well known issues in the first one. Fixing bugs probably would have cost their precious shareholders some money.

Ahh xenomorphs are the creatures from the Alien movies, so maybe thats why it stuck in my head. But yeah they're Necromorphs in Dead Space. tet5uo, well it's sad cause the first one is still fun to play, but I doubt I will give it a second playthrough cause of the bugs.

It makes the mouse movements extremely sluggish and uncontrollable. Its a bug I suffered with until I found a few posts on internet forums giving the solution. Otherwise I found both games to be amazing!

M+KB are incredibly sluggish during regular gameplay but a must have for the turret/cannon sequences because the controller becomes sluggish. I have also discovered numerous game breaking bugs not listed in the wiki link I posted... and the sad thing is they are repeatable.

I would say it's still worth picking up on sale (like $5) and if you dont mind a bit of tweaking and dealing with bugs (as in you will probably have to reload your save a few times). DS2 is way awesome though, definitely gonna play it again

Turn Vsync on (hurray 30fps ), you have to do this in several other parts of the game as well.

Yep, one of the funnest games I've played. Got it on the steam sale last year and read all about how everyone hated the camera angles and such.. I have not had so much fun in a game for a long time! The only thing I wish was to play through it again, I kept the save file, but have a new PC and with a SSD space is sacred. But yea, amazingly fun game.
