680 and aftermarket coolers like TwinTurbo II - success stories and issues? Tuesday, April 17, 2012 2:34 AM (permalink)
Hi all,
heaving read some short reviews I wonder if anybody here already made experiences with custom coolers on the GTX680 yet?

What are your experiences and were your expectations met?

So far I feel that e.g. the TwinTurbo II seems to deliver even better results than the Phantom or Windforce X3 coolers. What do you think?

Regards
Stefan

honnestly dude the supply to demand ratio is extremely low in a few months we'll plently of h20 coolers and aftermarket heatsinks

All the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think. The trouble is that men very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work.

I posted an update on the forum you referenced.  Just to spread the wealth of knowledge I'll repost here.

I have gone back to gpu controlled fan speed (when using the max 1.2v connector there was a bad sound - kinda high pitch, almost scratchy - it doesn't happen ever with the 85% limitation of precision X - just wonderfully quiet - though I'm sure it's not a common problem - just sometimes fans are not perfect).

      I'm at +132%/+170 /+400 steady for 7 days of BF3/Witcher 2/ME3/SC2/TF2 etc

Last night I was getting 58*C (I live in hot-as-fk New Mexico) in BF3 with FXAA injector (costs about 3fps which is only measurable in the worst dips - ie from 59fps to 56fps when looking at some particular spot that for whatever reason kills fps, otherwise it is always at 59-60 fps) with everything ultra except I turn off motion blur cause I don't like it. (BTW FXAA injector will NOT get you banned! lol - omg though - please don't let this comment derail the thread - keep it on track and about the twin turbo! ;-)))

Hey Robs, thanks for information sharing! BTW is there a documentation available explaining in detail how to replace the cooler and what needs to be considered?
Any risks regarding the replacement or 'only' wonderful results?

theres always a risk when it comes to modifying hardware with third party devices.....it's something you assume once you remove that first T6. Just be careful, and make sure you keep ALL of your original parts.

Today I finally received my new Gelid Icy Vision and mounted it to my 680. The cooler...better the heatsinks were not perfectly compatible and needed mechanical adjustment.
Once this was done (approx. 1 hour) everything fitted perfectly leading to max

56 degrees under stress testing with only 50% fan speed (using my case fan controller) instead of

70 degrees with 70% fan speed by the EVGA reference cooler.

              Amazing result!

I hope that now also the manufacturers know for higher quality (e.g. Prolimatech, Alpenfoehn) will announce their cooling solutions for the 680s.
