Distorted Audio Sunday, April 15, 2012 12:04 PM (permalink)
Hello,

I just finished with a triple monitor setup, but whenever I play games using Nvidia Surround, the in-game audio is distorted and scratchy.  I've done some testing and this happens through my headset, soundcard, and on-board audio. If I switch back to activating all displays, and play games on a single monitor, the distortion ceases.  Windows audio and streaming content will play without issue in either mode.

Here are my specs:

MSI Pro-E X58
i7 930 @3.8ghz
6GB G-SKill RAM (1600)
Creative Xtreme Gamer soundcard
Creative Tactic 3D Wrath wireless headset
GTX 480 SC (SLI)
Intel 160GB SSD
Lite-on Optical Drive
Corsair HX1050w PSU

Anyone experience this issue before?  I've searched multiple websites and none of them have any other answers other than updating drivers and flashing BIOS, which has been done.

    Hey Kuzak!

Back about a year ago, when I attempted to hook up my Logitech wireless headset to my rig, I had distorted audio and scratching noises.  This only happened when I would game at 57x10.  When I swapped it back to 19x10, the sound problems went away!!
I never found a solution for it.  Weird eh?  Is this only happening on your wireless set or with hardwired as well?

Edit:  This was happening on Z68 with 3 580's in surround.  I don't think it had to do with the number of cards, just the resolution.  I could use my sound card just fine with an audio out.  Wireless + surround was my problem.

Thanks Johnny.  I managed to isolate the root cause.

I actually neglected to test with on-board audio, my bad.  Looks like I'll be shelving the sound card, but it's all good.  Thanks again.

Sure!  I still want to find out why my wireless + surround wouldn't work.  If you find out give me a holler;)

        Peace brother.
