GTX 480 vs a GTX560SC(Non TI)

Would I benefit from replacing my 560 with a gtx 480? I would think so since it has more vram, more cuda cores. Just wanna get some tips on this.

Yup. 480 is more equivalent to the 570 from the current generation. A 560 non-Ti would see a pretty big improvement going to a 480. But, yeah, it's hot and loud, so...

How loud would you say it is? Like 3000RPM loud from a 120mm fan? I currently run my 560 at about 50% fan speed and don't hear it much. If I boost it up to 70+ I hear it. That loud or louder?

I don't know how loud your 560 at 50% is, but my 470 is pretty quiet until the fan is over 60%. After 60% it gets loud. If you don't mind running hotter and louder then a 480 is fine. They're pretty cheap now too, performance would be a nice upgrade from your current card.

Thanks! Yeah hopefully it is not insanely loud. I mean I run like 2000RPM fans 120MM CM Sickle Flow, I got an Antec tri cool fan which I blast up some times which doesn't bother me much. I just don't want it to be so loud to the point where I can not sleep at night if I decide to leave the pc on overnight and fold..

esCob4r Is it really THAT loud? what the heck? its relatively a loud card because the cards max temp usually operates around 90 degrees celcius. Because this card operates at high temps, the fan must reach high percentages to keep the card cool (from overheating). I was laying on some sarcasm, but this card can be rather loud when under full load...

voodoo do-er why not ad a second 560? He had them in SLI, but didn't like for some reason, so I bought his other card, and now possibly selling him my 480 lol.

+1 on the YES. They are still beasts in performance. ... and I don't notice them being too loud when my entire case case is running 7 other fans for cooling anyways ., plus the sounds from gaming.

It's not loud for gaming and usually stayed in the 70-80C range, but folding it hit 90C+ and the fan was putting up big numbers. The sound isn't 460EE irritating, just more volume than you are used to and louder than either of your 560's could ever be. You will like the performance and extra VRAM.

I don't know how you can say they not that loud, I have 3x 470 in 3 way sli and yea, they are very loud, they sound like jet engines from air-planes wile gaming, they even cover the fan noise from my window unit air conditioning, that how loud, about heat? they troll into the room a grate quantity of heat, like if my room with the computer IDLE stays at 80F, when start gaming goes up to 90 and more, leaving me no choice to run my A/C, and the A/C runs with a lot of effort to keep the rum at 80F, so I don't know how you guys can say they not that hot and noisy and I hear that 480 are even worse

^ You're running Tri-Sli what did you expect from these cards, or any other cards stuck together next to each one sucking the heat from one to another? In single card configuration with proper airflow and more importantly a decent ambiental temp, 480/470's are quite ok both in the thermal and acoustic department.

Yeah I do not plan on running SLI for a while. And as for SLI 560s, I had them in SLI but did not see a true reason for keeping them other for benching purposes. If I do run SLI in the future I plan on going WC before i get another 480. Either way thanks for the advice. Anyone wanna buy a 560? =P LoL

The heat and noise of the card is usually embellished a fair bit. My 470 has been sitting around 80-85'c as of late (without a decent clean in a few months). Normally when its clean and summer it sits at around 72-80'c at 65-70% fan speed. (under full load) While the noise is noticable, its bearable with gaming noises/tv sounds - easily. My wife and I can talk without even noticing it (while whispering to make sure we don't wake our 3 months old up) - and the 3 month old can sleep with the fan noise too lol. I imagine that while the 480 uses more power and heat, it has a better heatsink than the 470, so from what I have read the temps and noise are similar. (if you are really worried, just throw a AIO water cpu cooler on it like the antec/cosair's (its what im doing : )

480 running at stock in a decent air circulated case is fine. I definitely recommend reTIM the card as I've see 5-10 degrees difference at full load and around 3-5 at idle. Also high flow bracket will help you a few degrees. Just gauge your tolerance for noise as you start to overclock it. Personally I was fine on the stock coolers and overclocked. It helped even more that I paid 200 bucks each for my 480s and my wallet was a bit heavier allowed me to overlook the sound short comin. Ive convinced one of my friends to buy one as well, and my little brother got one from me for Christmas and neither of them complain of any noises.

Mystikalrush You can also use the 480 heatsink as a cooking surface. lmao, I beat you could, they get mad hot. @ revenantx02: that is really interesting to see how you do it but that way you will cool the GPU but what about the videocard memory? but sadly that will not work for me anyway, since I have 3 cards one on top of the other and no space for add H80 or what ever CPU cooler. @ esCob4r: I agree with you about those compact water coolers, since they give me problems, I had a CORSAIR H60 and man, so much headaches, as soon I open the box 1 of the treading screw was mess up, I had to mod with some stoff from the local hardware store, then the internal pump failed and caused my computer to randomly shot down after 6 months of usage and I got it replaced and the second all so failed at me, now I am back to a big chock of metal as a CPU cooler with 2x 120mm fans push pull and they do cool better then that H60 I had be honest, so I never will buy 1 of those coolers again, my next money will be on a custom loop, even is I have no idea what to buy and how to assemble 1

revenantx02 Here ya go nick: http://www.overclock.net/t/1203528/official-nvidia-gpu-mod-club-aka-the-mod each AIO turns the card into pretty much single slot, so no issue with stacked video cards. Just grab same vram heatsinks from new egg and all set. Another way is to get the full heat sink cover for the GPU blocks like this : http://www.svc.com/gtx470-hs.html and cut it where necessary to make the aio fit mmmmmmmmm,,, that is not a bad idea at all, and is way cheaper (H80 is 100$) then buy full water cool block for those cards (125$ each + pump + tubing +radiator and what ever you need) love the idea. I researched, and I found this http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=87 for 20$ each for the GPU processor + http://www.svc.com/gtx470-hs.html to cool the Vmemory + http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=1246 70$ to cool your CPU + http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=950 40$ as a pump + http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=1226 as radiator 70$ + 50$ between coolant, tubing+ fitting = 20+20+20+16+16+16+70+40+70+50= 338$ full custom water cooling loop, not bat either, because those H80 are about 100$ each so multiply by 4 (3 for GPUs and 1 for CPU) still spending 400$ plus the headache to fit 4 radiators in to the case. Any opinion or suggestion or website to get stuff cheaper will be welcome, soo what do you thing?
