HELP Please with my new z68. OC Wednesday, April 04, 2012 12:21 PM (permalink)
So recently I got z68 FTW and i5 2500k.
I've been trying to OC to at least 4.2 on stock cooler.
So this is my steps
multiplier at 40
CPU configuration:
CPU3 disable
CPU C6 Disable
and all that power saving thing is disabled
I set my Cpu Pll vol to 1.709v.
So i do this and restart
but when I go into CPU-Z it shows me this.

Multiplier x33  and i thought i set it at 40??
Core speed: 3293 MhZ ?
What is wrong with this?>

Read the sticky at the top of this section for the overclocking guide. You shouldn't have to mess with PLL voltages for a 4.0 overclock.

If you have the stock cooler on the CPU, I wouldn't be trying to overclock it at all.  Stock Coolers are meant for Stock Settings.

dave has that right about the coolers.

As far as what you are trying to do with OCing. Just follow the directions for EVGA's Eleet. Download it and slide the control over to 43 or 44 and you be good to go. It does everyting for you.

As for the cooler, just ge t a closed liquid system. Takes no time to install, depending on the case you have, and there is no maint. involved.

Here are a few good ones I use:
