Re:Any estimate on 680 Step-up

hoserx People who don't search the other forums before asking a question that has been answered 1,000 times shouldn't say anything, really. EVGA is getting it done as fast as they can. What else do people want to know? In movie theaters, I am sure people repeatedly ask where the bathroom is. Sometimes, normal questions are asked a lot. You can't yell at a guy cause he didn't go read the theater guide before asking where the bathroom is. This is a simple fact. I was #67 last monday 3/26, as of today I am #17. That is 50 cards processed in 8 business days. I have had plenty of chances to buy this card at retail. As of my writing this, there are many flavors of 680 up for sale at TD. TD has consistently had them in stock as have other venders. All of my sources/readings say that the initial allotment of cards from NV was around 10k and they "sold out" in 12 hours, which is very good from a business standpoint. I have also heard/read that the first week of April (THIS WEEK) there is an even bigger allotment going out to E-tailers and partners. So....let's hope so. SIDE note: I know its sort of an evolution. But why are there 11-12 different versions of the GTX 580 for sale? Can someone explain how that can keep costs down, save time, or be efficient? Does there really need to be a 4 versions of the EVGA 3G Hydro Copper 580? But hey, at least you can get a p67 FTW ;) Happy Waiting. <3 EVGA

mjhubbard OK so it is not a "true" paper launch, you are right. But for all intensive purposes it is. Evga is not the only one. None of the big companies has stock. It is all trickling in slowly. Ill bet NVIDA is the problem. They should have built up stock before starting this thing off. That was one "Intensive" paper launch, so "Intensive" that we actually saw large quantities of product ship out and back ordered within minutes. Get over it, it's like any other hot commodity it sells quickly. Think about game consoles, you can almost never find enough of them the first 2-3 months. Hell I got the cruddy Wii on day one and almost a year later people would come into the gamestop I worked for asking about Wii stock because they flew off shelves so fast.

Hell I got the cruddy Wii on day one and almost a year later people would come into the gamestop I worked for asking about Wii stock because they flew off shelves so fast. I don't know anyone who claims to be an "enthusiast" who has to wait 2-3 months for a new game console. Most of my console gamer buddies get them the first day at midnight or within a week or a few days. The wii was released with intentionally low stock quantities to create demand for the product. This is well known and well documented. As for your console example I think you can find a better example. The truth is, these cards have been readily for sale (in spurts) on Amazon, NewEgg, TD, NCIX and many, many other sites since day 1. Yes stock is quite low, no, people don't really wait 2-3 months for consoles, well maybe some, but no proud enthusiast gamer does, at least none that I know. People are anxious, its ok, its not the end of the world, its just a GPU (saying this as someone who literally loves GPUs btw). We can and will happily wait. I am eager to see EVGA clean up the Graphics cards they have for sale. If you look at the ever growing list it is all out of order in terms of performance and is of course listed by price, its sort of a mess, eager to see them streamline for efficiency soon. Put some of those old 580s out at B stock and start getting a cleaner and leaner lineup of fewer cards. And here is to hoping they don't make 4 versions of a 4G hydro copper 680. May not be necessary. Well only as necessary as a high flow backplate on a water cooled GPU.

I was arguing calling this a "paper" Launch :] If you missed the context...then oh well :[ Anyhow as enthusiasts of course we'll sit in the cold for hours in order to give these companies hundred/thousands of dollars (I did for each console release since the PS2/Xbox Gens) and will break our F5's with pre-registered accounts/payment methods. In fact I was able to get 2 GTX 680's sent over and only had issues due to amazon's cruddy delivery through fedex (surprisingly they used fedex instead of UPS that is always quick) Again these cards are worth it, but calling it a paper launch is just flat out incorrect. As for the consoles it is a very valid comparison regardless of tactics. The reason being that while the enthusiasts may want it on day one (or sooner *wink) these items were made with the masses in mind. These cards sold out quickly because not just enthusiasts but your everyday joe wanted at least one. Now when the 4GB Hydro Classys and the GK110's release then we can talk about availability, as I don't see just anyone throwing out 1k per card, those are reserved for us the crazy people that love benchmarks and perfection.

Any possibility of knowing when evga will start sending more cards to the step up queue as it has not moved for a few days now and looking at this, it seems like it will take forever. As mentioned earlier... It is not unusual for the Step Ups to take a few months after the original launch. For this reason they allow our Step Up window requirement to no longer expire and why it is criticle to not cancel the Stp up unless you know for a fact that you have at least two days left on the original 90 day window. Otherwise if you cancel and say it is day 110, no chance, no option to get back in line. Once in line it is best to stay in line unless you have simply changed your mind...

Seeing as how EVGA doesn't require any form of payment until you reach your spot in the queue...this is a no brainer really. Get in the queue and continue to use your products to game. If it gets to the point where it's time for you to Step Up, great. If it's taking too long and you want to buy a card outright and sell yours by yourself....just drop out of the queue. No harm, no foul...no waiting to get your money back from EVGA. This really is an unbelievable program for situations like this when new gen cards come out.

Started at 150 or somewhere around there. I've seen four big drops in the number since I queued up the day it was available. I've now been sitting at 26 for a couple weeks.

I orginally was at 247 when I signed up on day 1. Dropped 90 spots in the first week. So it looks like if you singed up in the double digits you got lucky.

I am playing the waiting game myself; #254, #605 in queue. Demand far outweighs supply which is surprising to me for a few reasons: - Computer gaming is a far smaller community than our console brethren.
- The ultra high-end consumer who needs a 680 is even smaller, let alone afford it.
- And of those select groups of people, even fewer will qualify for a step-up.
I am enjoying the two EVGA GPU's currently in my system, and they do everything I need it too.

To put it in perspective, here's the 580 thread along these same lines: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=673504 Started 9/9/10, thread eventually died in late March of 2011. I'm not saying it's going to take this long (or be that short), but for your long term health just relax and game on for now. Soon you'll get a magical email, like a golden ticket from Willy Wonka, inviting you to trade your card in. And it will be good.
