What do you do with your OLD hardware?

Hey Everyone. As you can see from my sig my hardware is only a few years old and is still pushing me through pretty well. I usually do a complete rebuild of my PC every 3-4 years, with the coming p77 series coming up soon I do plan to do a full upgrade. All my previous builds have been handed down to my girlfriend and soon this current build will be handed off to her to. But the problem I have is when ever I upgrade mine and pass it off down the line the build my girlfriend has is finally so old that no one in there right mind would want to buy it compared to what is currently out on the market due to it being roughly six years old finally when it moves on. What my girlfriend currently has is a early gen P45 with a Conroe dual core and a 8800GTS 640. And my PC before that was a Pentium-D PC back when they first came out. Prior to that was a P3 or P4 and so on. I also somehow got stuck with my parents old P2 computers and I think a first generation AMD PC also. Back to my main question. Since I have five or six very old PC's that no one would every buy is there any kind of recycle company for old PC's or a donation sort of thing. Does any big name computer stores (i.e. Microcenter) take old PC's? I ultimately don't want to see these things end up in a junkyard if that is where there going to end up. Thanks in advance, JJ509

I know Dell has some sort of recycle program. Failing that, donate them to a local public school or library - and if they give you a receipt, you can use it as a charitable donation if you itemize on your tax return. Just make sure you thoroughly wipe all hard drives and overwrite with a zero-out utility.. I suggest at least 3 passes.

Toss em on Craigslist, someone will take them.
I will no longer do business with EVGA.

kram36 Toss em on Craigslist, someone will take them. Lol meh. I had a friend where a craigslist sell turned incredibly awkward so I won't be going that rought. Nereus I know Dell has some sort of recycle program. Just make sure you thoroughly wipe all hard drives and overwrite with a zero-out utility.. I suggest at least 3 passes. Hmm. Not bad idea but I already know my town did a public building IT upgrade a while ago so I know everything is now at least mid-level dual core either intel or AMD. I could see what I can do with my old dual core but my Pentium PC's would have to go through the recycle program. Thank you for the quick responses. I'll look up what can for dell and any other recycle programs. I just wanted to see if the EVGA community already had some knowledge on this or someone already went through whatt I'm going through.

ask in the crunching/folding section of the forums. Old hardware is always useful there.

They would make a good donation to those in need or be good freebies.

I know the guy who runs pcs4vets, those parts might serve some use with them. Here's the info page (they're always looking for donations of hardware and funds): http://www.pcs4veterans.org/

Search your area via Google for places that recycle or accept donated pcs. "pc recycling [zip, county, city, etc]" Full-fledged Best Buy stores are supposed to accept all PCs while mobile or smaller Best Buy stores only accept certain portions, Staples supposedly accepts PCs (I went to one that charged $15/computer), Goodwill, and etc. ~Fus

I normally part them out as givaways during folding contests. Or give them to family members. My mom is running my old Single core Celeron machine, and my brother has my X2.

I would have done that too, except both my brother didn't want it and I my mom prefered laptops over desktops lol the funny thing I had a AMD X2 and a Core 2 Quad desktop my mom could have used, but she was sticking with a old AMD XP 1800+ HP laptop that barely ran windows 7 at the time. now she finally has a Core i3 2100 sandy bridge toshiba

I'm a hardware hoarder, I always have something to do to these old machines, I just never get around to doing it :P I even have an old mac (I don't know why) that has video capture hardware, but since the monitor port is something wonky I haven't got any adapters for, it sits collecting dust right now.
