Looks like either a bad card, improper installation or it is not getting enough power.  Did it crash to desktop or bluescreen?

    Interesting though.

My card is now doing this as well in addition to just freezing the desk top or program that I am running.  Most frustrating.

Running on a OCZ 550 Watt Power Supply, 36amp 12v rail single, was just sitting on the desktop video chatting with my cousin when all suddenly the computer froze and my whole monitor had artifacts, gpu wasn't hot or anything, no bluescreens, the computer just froze at the desktop, running i5 2500k, no overclocks on nothing, fresh install of windows 7 64 bit professional on a ocz agility 3 60gb ssd, no reason to why the video card is doing this, 1 hour later I put on skyrim (high settings) and it didn't artifact, something to do with the card being in 2d mode?

I just installed the Rosewill 750w Capstone PSU, and it's still doing it on mine as well. Seems unlikely that it's a power issue.....

Just found out, check out on newegg and search for evga 560 ti fpb 1gb and the first card that pops up click it, the last guy that made a product review said - Cons: Don't install the 296.10 driver, it causes purple static artifacts to appear on the screen. Install the previous driver. Other than that, none.
              Well thanks Alot!

Exactly the same problem here on my GTX 560 after upgrading to the 296.10 drivers. Mainly happens while watching YouTube videos fullscreen. I rolled back to 295.73 drivers and so far so good.

Edit: The really odd part is this is exactly the same problem my GTX 280 started showing back in November (it's why I now have a GTX 560). Since it was out of warranty and deader than a doornail I decided to try baking it (Google "baking a gtx 280") and now it works like new. Haven't tried the 296.10 drivers on it but at this point I don't want to lol!

Before anyone freaks out (you know who you are you crazy internet people): I'M NOT TELLING ANYONE TO BAKE THEIR CARDS! Especially if they are still under warranty. This appears to be a driver issue. I'm just relating a strange similarity to what happened to be a few months ago to me. It looked exactly the same.

Might be a single card issue. I dunno.

Its a driver issue that is well known with 296.10 and being fixed. Roll back to 295.73 in the mean time to solve it. I get this problem with my current system. On my other system that has a 550 Ti. I don't have the problem and that is with using 296.10 drivers. Just goes to show it will vary by each system or card.

                              GTX 560 TI FPB..

I was playing GTA:SA and tabbed out to watch one of my fraps videos that open up with windows media player - and BOOM Pink screen with artifacts. My screen froze for about a minute, then I got a popup that said "Nvidia driver has crashed and recovered".

The card is not overheating as it was at about 50-60C. and while playing Mafia II or BF3 at 85C everything works perfectly fine.

I just updated to 296.10 yesterday, and never had any problems before that.

Yeah, I've seen things like this happen when the card is aggressively mode switching.

Things to try in order to resolve it:
                                1. Set Windows to use 'High Performance' power profile
                                2. Set the nVidia control panel 'global' 3d settings to 'Prefer Maximum Performance'
                                3. Try different driver versions.  I've certainly had a few in the 280-series that generated weird power problems exactly like that.  Even had that happen once with the 296.10s.  The WHQL 295.75 have been the best for me.

I have XP, so my settings are different. For instance, my best option for power management through the control panel is Gaming Mode, and I don't even have a Power Management mode option on my NVIDIA Control Panel.  I have nothing between Multi-display and Texture Filtering....

you have no Power management Mode in Nvidia Driver global settings? I had that with every nvidia card I used, GTS250, GTX260, 275, 285, 570, etc... ... weird ...

I think the latest 295/295 drivers are broken for 560 cards, try 285 whql ... or a 290 beta if you like to try an unfinished stuff...

No power management in global settings, but if I go over to program settings tab, I do have that option for SOME programs - like Adobe Acrobat (where the only option is "Adaptive", but not for others (like Flight Sim, SH III, Valve Steam......). Ya, weird.......

I had a 560ti, nothing but issues with BF3. Returned it for a 570 2.5gb mem. Works alot better.

running two 560 ti's in SLI and have had no problem with 296.10.  Just to add to the other 560 sli poster above me.

PS.  @sleepy though I know that 85c is not threshold, but for a single card that is pretty high.  I would invest in better cooling.  With a single card and a good case you can maintain a mid 70's on heavy load which is no not too shabby.  With SLI, which runs hotter than single, my top card runs about 77c with batman AC with high settings etc.., but I have a Azza Hurricane 2000 (nice case, which I added fans giving total of 9 case fans).  but that is just my 2 cents.

Same problem here. Happens after the 296.10 update.
It only happens to me when I compress videos in VirtualDub OR play a video in Media Player Classic 1.5.2.3456.
                                              Definitely related to video rendering.

I just rolled back to previous driver. Will come back and edit my post if it didn't do the trick.

edit: it did the trick. Definitely a driver issue.

Same problem here with a one day old GTS450 superclocked (windows xp, ASUS P8P67M).

That happens with only firefox opened... I don't have any problems running games like Crysis Warhead.

Tried to disable flash acceleration, didn't do the trick. I'm trying the 295.73 drivers now.

I can confirm that this is mostly a driver issue with the newest drivers and it mostly happens when you watch HD video.

I've been using 295.73 the better part of this week and was sure things were fine until I got the pink glittery screen of death yet again. PC rebooted and the driver display error popped up again.

I to am having this happen. What little bit info I have found about it, I tested my PSU, and tried a few older drivers using Driver Sweeper between them. Im kinda in a funk with this. I did try the High Performance setting which sadly didn't help. It seems to happen after certain video things occur which to me is driver issue however I havent been able to figure what it is. I don't think it to be a bad card. (Card temps are around 25-50c during idling and games)

This may be a bit of a stretch, but I have had a somewhat similar problem that seems to go away when I set my GPU to a higher overclock.  Maybe all my card needed was a little more voltage.

Easy to try if the problem is pretty consistent.
