Good inexpensive E-ATX case for folding/crunching farm?

I need a home for an E-ATX board and probably another bigger-than-ATX server board. It doesn't have to be pretty, or even very sturdy, as it will be stuck in a back room and never moved. All I need is good airflow and enough room in the case to make it easy to work on. Room for tall HSF's like the Hyper212 is a requirement. I have HAF-922's and I think the HAF-932 or HAF-X look good, but I was wondering if there was something cheaper that would work.

I had forgotten about those - but I'm too cheap for that; even his simple tech station in ATX size with no top is already $110, so I'd imagine with sides and shipping assembled it would be no cheaper than a production case. I would consider it if I wanted stackable but I don't have that many to build.

troy8d I can build you one out of used pizza boxes and duct tape. You have to use unused pizza boxes or the mice come and eat all the cardboard.

True enough. But the top should still be clean. Either way - I frequent the local pizza shop enough that I could easily get some unused ones for your case.

I would say the Xigmatek Elysium. If you have a MicroCenter near you, its $200. It's a nice home and dwarfs my X58 Classified.

I would go with an Elysium, especially if down the road it needs to house a 4P Supermicro or HPTX board. May not be the most visually beautiful case, but will accommodate all comers in mobos. NewEgg has it for $189.99 (after rebate) with free shipping and no tax if you're outside of CA. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16811815011 ...otherwise you can go the Troy "PC in a pizza box" route.

I would consider it if I wanted stackable but I don't have that many to build. Please don't assume anything about the price. Plus, stacking will reduce the overall cost since the bottom of one case will be the top of the case below it. Oh, and I was only thinking of 4p boards when I modeled this: EATX would be a bit cheaper.

Spotswood, I've been following your thread over at [H] about this new design. Could that PSU be turned 90 degrees (sideways) to prevent blocking the one Fan hole and partially blocking the one next to it? I know that even the large corporate case manufacturers sometimes have blocked fan holes, but I always like to see unobstructed air flow (if a fan hole is part of the design). Just an observation. I really like that you are offering something that will have walls too. I like the simplicity of an open-case, but minimizing dust accumulation has always been what prevented me from considering one (and I don't really tweak enough to justify "open" all the time). Best wishes with this new case you are designing too. Edit: Went ahead and posted over at [H] in your main thread with my thoughts.

Added a HD "rail" system that can be re-positioned in all three axis and can handle SSDs: Another rail could be added to those two posts. :)
