The onboard PCIE 1 and 3 provide one x16 Gen3 link to CPU1 (Auto switch to x8 link if PCIE 2 and 4 are occupied); The onboard PCIE 5 and 7 provide one x16 Gen3 link to CPU2. These slots support VGA cards and various server class high performance add-on cards.
 
So you have slot 1-3-5-7 all at x16 as long as you don't use 2 and 4. Please correct me if I am wrong.

So yes u got 4 16x slots + 1 8x one.
That +1 better again in comparison to the SR-X

(only some i/o ports change and audio is not present on server version)

Slot 3: PCIe Gen3 x16, connector from first processor.
Slot 4: PCIe Gen3 x8, connector from second processor.
Slot 5: PCIe Gen3 x16, connector from second processor.
Slot 6: PCIe Gen3 x8, connector, from second processor
Slot 7: PCIe Gen3 x16,connector, from second processor
Slot 8: PCIe Gen2 x4 electrical with x8 physical connector, from second processor

The IP4 and W2600CR have a proprietary form factor.

W2600CR2 is bigger than SR-X (15" - 14.2" vs. 15" - 13.6" for SR-X)
 
I'd guess with SR-X you have somewhat bigger choice of cases as it is retaining the same form factor as SR-2...  With Intel,  you will be limited to Intel's own case, P4000L, at least for the time being.

Note that Intel's chasis is a custom server chasis, so desktop PSUs will not fit.  Intel is selling 1200W and 1600W PSUs with 80+ platinum (e.g. - FXX1600PCRPS), although currently only 1200W one is available (1600W is planned to be released in Q3 2012)
 
 

In the technical specs of the W2600CR2 the power connectors look like standard 1 x ATX 24-pin, 2 x 8-pin EPS12V and 1 x 4-pin ATX 12V. I plan to get an Enermax Platimax 1500W for that board, but I will check again.
Additionally, the Enermax Fulmo GT looks like more than big enough for the board. Should be no problem to drill a few missing holes. :-)
I will get a P4000L with W2600CR2 or S2600IP from Intel in a few weeks for benchmarking, then I will know more.

Lol.  I wonder why they put that 2nd and 3d slot there since you won't be able to use them if you, you know, want RAM.

Slot 1 is at the right bottom (left) of the board, so you have:
Slot 1, 3, 5, 7 for the GPUs, then slot 8, 9, 10 for audio, RAID, and SSD boards, witch are half-length... so no problem to fill all DIMMS and PCIe slots :)

Akward form factors and usages spawned need for risers years ago, so if someone or some business wanted all their RAM and all PCIe slots filled with long PCB cards, they can.  Heck, the PCIe cards don't have to be long; no rule afterall.  These companies want the highest number of sales, so they will put the longest slot available rather than shorten it down to imply usng only certain cards. 
 
We know for sure the target market that settled for this didn't choose it for whatever inconvinienced someone else-- a mentality I've noticed mainly among purists that think it is all about them...
