evga 680i help..

Okay so here is the deal, i bought a evga 680i off of ebay the other day and im trying to get it running. I have everything installed and go to power it on and the amber light blinks rapidly when the psu power is turned on. I can power it on using the on switch on the bottom of the mobo and it powers on with the amber, blue and green lights all solid but the fan on the gpu does not power and i get the code (-,-) and it does not post. I tried 2 different power supplies, a intel pentium 4, q6600, gpus that i know for sure work and nothing. I even tried it with out the cm hyper 212 mounting hardware installed in case that was grounding something, nothing either. I also tried hooking everything up on cardboard box and still nothing. I have not tried taking out the battery yet. My only other suspicion is that i am using ddr2 memory from and old dell gx 280 i believe. 2 sticks 1gb each of Nanya brand memory i believe. I thinking that i either ordered a defective 680i or that the memory i am using is causing it to not post or boot. I can not test other memory because i have no other ddr2 memory available. Should i order some corsair dominator ddr2 mem for this board and will that solve my problem??

Give the CMOS chip in the square socket at the bottom of the board a good push to verify it is fully seated as if it is not it can cause this.

I pushed down on the chip and it seems to be firmly in place. I also tried taking out the battery and setting the jumper to reset cmos for an hour. I also tried a different batter just in case the old one was dead and that didnt work either. Its kind of wierd, when i turn on power to psu the yellow light blinks rapidly. When i turn on the computer the yellow lights stops blinking and all three light are illuminated like normal but i get the -- code like i mentioned earlier. Also when i power on the computer the fan on the gtx 295 will not spin but the green light on the 295 is on. I tried my 260 and the fan also did not spin. Then i tried it with my 480 and the fan would spin but i still got the same code with nothing on the monitor. Any idea people? Could it be that the memory is causing all this. The memory is "Nanya nt1gt64u8ha0by-37b" http://www.google.com/sea...l&client=firefox-a The link with the pdf will give specs of the memory, I know for sure it is memory that is not approved with this board but would it cause the problems i am having?

Try it outside of the case on a non-conductive surface as the yellow light should not blink so there could be a grounding issue.

I have it fully put together on a cardboard box. At first i thought it was being grounded because of the backplate mounting on the cooler master hyper 212, but i took that off and i still got the amber light blinking when i turn psu power on. I have no idea what else could be grounding. I am pretty sure i have all the psu connections properly hooked up and everything.

The amber light is for it seeing the system RAM so try each one alone in the system in the slots and see if the RMA is causing any issues as well as wee what happens with no RAM in the system.

Thanks for your help Matt. I tried 2 sticks-blinks, 1 stick-blinks, different slot-blinks, no ram-blinks. I think what im going to do is send this back to the guy who i bought it from. He offered my 30 days money back so ill return this and invest in a x58 with i7 920. I found a great deal on ebay on i7 920, asus rampage 2 extreme, and 6gb corsair dominator for around 300 bucks. I would buy evga board but if i would buy that stuff separately it would cost me much more so i may sell the asus and buy and evga board.
