EVGA gtx 460 blue screen problem
Thursday, March 08, 2012 1:00 PM
( permalink)
I have a evga gtx 460 1024mb sc ee. Since the end of Jan. 2012, I keep randomly getting blue screens. I have not had a blue screen in like 5+ years. I had several blue screens but I couldnt log them due to the screen restart happening to fast. I turned that off and the last 2 blue screen errors were, system_service_exception stop: 0x00000003B and irq_not_less_or_equal stop: 0x0000000A. From what I could find and understand, it looks like the 1st error code could be related to video card. I have tried 3 different drivers, 2 betas and 1 whql. Didnt fix anything, blue screen still happened. Second error seemed to be hardware related. Something with the kernel trying to access memory. I have only got the blue screens when playing games. The games can also freeze/lock up. The 2 games are BF3 and CoD Black Ops zombies. I ran memtest86 100% for 10 hrs. It passed, no errors. Even ran windows memory test, no errors. Vista 64 sp2 MSI P7n sli 750i Antec 650 Earthwatts

Is your CPU or graphics card overclocked?

I dont reload my OS for a issue with the video card. I dont have issues within Windows itself, only when gaming. I believe either may card is just dying or its driver related.

I did the uninstall and install like the post said. So now I have a clean driver install. My only problem that I came across was that the Standard VGA Adapter did not install, it failed. Does that matter? I did try my old video card, evga gtx 260 and when installing that, the Standard VGA Adapter installed.

I ran the OC scanner flurry test didnt find any artifacts. Even ran tessy, didnt find any either. I will try the games outs and see if it wasnt just a driver install done wrong.

let us know what happens are you over clocking at all on cpu or mem. I know you have not oc'd the video card but this could be coming from unstablility in current OC settings of cpu or mem.

Nope no ocing at all other than the factory OC on the video card. So far BF3 has not crashed or freezed but I may have to play for a few weeks to see if the problem comes back.

Just an update on my issue. I have yet to have a crash, freeze or blue screen since I uninstalled/installed correctly. So far so good. I have not done any hardware or software changes other than updating drivers and a newer precision tool.

Since ive never had a issue with my gtx 260 super clocked I will try using that and see if the issues come back. My gtx 460 was very hot to the touch on the pcb. I think its ram is dead or dying. I got a another blue screen error when gtx 460 was just sitting idle on the forums. If the gtx 260 works well without issues ill just rma the gtx 460 and get another.

The gtx 260 frooze with graphical problem(screen looked all messed up with different colors). Normally I would say overheating but nothing has changed for me to suggest overheating only age is the difference for both cards. No blue screen occured though. Since both cards have had issues recently but no issues prior for the gtx 260. I am trying to remove memory sticks and see if that is the issue. I think it is but i have passed every memory test. I also know that you can still have issues even though u pass a memory test. So ill see how this goes. Ill post back after i have tested for a lil while or if I get any issues.

I was looking at the max amps for your psu on the 12v rails. I do not know all specs about your system to be able to calculate load but with 22 amps max on 2 12v rails you maybe be maxing out your amp load on your psu

Well since removing 2 of the 4 mem sticks I have yet to have a bsod or freeze. Only thing that did happen was that the computer didnt shut down one nite. It just stayed on the shut down screen. Other than that I havent really seen any other issues. My system specs: Vista 64 SP2 Q9550 2.8ghz Raptor HD 300GB (main) 500GB HD (backup) MSI mobo p7n sli fi (750i) EVGA gtx 460 1GB SC EE Antec Earthwatts 650

I have put my memory back in my system all 8 gb. I took them all out and changed them around and see if that did anything. I am also still using my gtx460. So far i have not had any issues. I still am not 100% sure of what caused my blue screen errors or if its even fixed. For now I can play games again. I plan on upgrading this year so hopefully no more issues.
