Best RAM for p55 SLI board, and high OC's

I just sold off my Sandy Bridge rig, and now I'm back to using my p55 SLI board as my main pc. I picked up an i7 860 used for cheap, and now I want to do some overclocking. Right now I have a 8gb kit of g.skill ddr3 1866 F3-149000CL9-4GBXL, it's not the best RAM, but it was OK on my p67 build, I just ran the XMP profile, and was done with it. Now that I'm back to doing good old fashioned bclk OC'ing, I'm wondering if I should pick up some different RAM. I'm shooting for a bclk of at least 210, and wouldn't mind running my RAM at 10, or 12 multiplier, so I would need significantly faster RAM. Anybody have any recommendations? Or should I just keep the 8gb kit I have, set it at the manufacturer timings, and run it at 8 multiplier around 1600mhz, then try to tighten up the timings a bit? Thanks.

I would keep what you have. What you lose in speed you can make up for somewhat with timings. Just play around with them and try to tighten them as much as it can handle. With that particular RAM running CAS latency 9 at 1866Mhz, I would say 7 latency at 1600MHz is not out of the question. On the other hand, you could also loosen the timings and try for 2000MHz although success there is less likely unless you want to bump the voltage up just a bit. Regardless, you would see minimal performance gains with new RAM. Not worth dropping $75 on in my opinion, at least not without trying to play with the RAM you have a bit first.

Cool, thanks for the great advice. Honestly I've never noticed much real world difference between 1333, and 1900 on the current set I have, so I'm not sure why I thought I needed a kit that could do 2500. I think I'll just work on tightening up them timings, and save that $75 for some compression fittings.

I currently have some GSkill Reapers that are only DDR3 1333 (2x 4GB). I've been fighting off the upgrade bug, mainly because I paid $160 for those back when they were that expensive. You can get the exact same set for $43 on newegg now

You won't notice much difference performance wise, and it'll really only give you more headroom for a higher overclock.
