Apropos to nothing ( because the whole "Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world" thing is rather a huge misunderstanding of their calendar - it's basically nothing more than a rollover date like our December 31 -> Jan 1 rolls over one year to the next)... ...that's not exactly a relevant argument, as the entire idea of 'leap years' is an artifact of the Gregorian calendar system. IE., there is nothing to 'account for' when looking at another calendar system, as they won't have that problem, or have the problem but deal with it in different ways. For example, the Hebrew calendar has an entire 'leap month' that shows up every now and then.

mayans actualy use planetery alighment and solar cycles to predict their years.... around jan 2013 solar activity is due to hit its max so it actualy adds up there is no proof that mayans didnt account for leap year since they were obessed with planetery alignment, they wouldve most definetly noticed the leap year offset
All the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think. The trouble is that men very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work. -Thomas J. Watson

I don't think our calendar has anything to do with it. From what I understand, it has all been adjusted so the day the Mayans predicted the world will end falls in our calendar on Dec. 21st 2012 which is also the winter solstice. We will see soon enough...........

Unfortunately, depending on which prophet, messiah, whack job etc you follow or choose not to follow. We should have all been doomed numerous times over. Me, I'm not going to worry about doomsday until it actually happens and I want a dang nice front row seat to watch it all too!

As has been mentioned above, but to say in a different way. The Mayans had no concept of January, February, etc. They measured time by cycles of the sun, and planets. There is no change in the calculations of planetary alignment predicted (amazingly) by the Mayans. But we have artificially assigned our calendar to their predictions. So when Europeans assigned the date of alignment to the Mayan prediction, we came up with the date listed. So there is no missed armageddon. But as was also said, the calendar did not predict an end of times. It simply ended at a major cycle of planetary alignment. It is kind of like running out of checks in the check book. The world won't end,,,,,,,,, OK, so maybe it will for some people.
