Which card to get :S Monday, March 05, 2012 11:20 AM (permalink)
I have a question regarding which graphics card to purchase!
I have an evga x58 ftw3 mobo with an i7-960 cpu.
I will be gaming on a single monitor which is an lg 47'' 3dtv
I want to be able to play bf3 and Crysis and Crysis 2 at ultra settings with max aa @1080p
I have the money to buy the 3gb version but will that be enough? Or is it overkill? I don't plan on using multiple screen however having the option to do it is always welcome!
Would you recommend that I buy the 3gb version or the 1.5gb?
Or possibly any other card?
I've seen a lot of people suggest the 3gb version and vice versa so I'm a bit confused :S
This is my first pc build so I'm a bit of a noob... got tired of playing on consoles and finally decided to switch to pc gaming

Thanks in advace! :)

    Hello Mikaelfred,

I created a thread yesterday about similar issue about which video card to buy http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?high=&m=1483296&mpage=1#1483296 .

This might help you. For me, i decided to go with the GTX 580 3GB as games will demand more and more VRAM and in the future when the prices drop i will just simply put a second one and later maybe a third one so it is really a good choice. It's up to you but thats what i have chosen. After all, It's your money and your computer. Hope i helped.

Actually, they are to release Nvidia's new GTX 600 series March 23rd according to this:

As of right now, the best card to get for your money is the HD7970.

March 23 that's my birthday! So should I wait some time before getting the gpu? I've looked at the HD7970 but my mobo has PC-E 2.0 could I still plug the HD7970 on my mobo even if it's PC-E 3.0?

Yes PCI-E 3.0 is backwards compatible, i agree in waiting to till what Nvidia has to offer, also the HD7870 Ghz just got released
