Random Freezes

I have posted a couple times on this issue and so far the suggestions seems to help and reduce freezing a lot. However, I'm still getting them but less now, possibly like once every 5 days or so. I'm just wondering if I can make it anymore stable thanks. I get these random freezes when im doing anything online... gaming, facebook, listening to music... Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate Evga 790i Ultra SLI Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Kingston 2pack 2g each stick (KHX1333C7D3K2/4G) 2x of these (8gb total) XFX GeForce 9800 GTX + 512MB PCIe w/Dual Link DVI Bios: BIOS Version: P08 **System ** CPU Freq, MHz: 2833.3 GHZ FSB Reference Clock, MHz: 1333.3 CPU Multiplier: [8.5X] PCle x16-1 & 16-2, MHz: [100] PCle x16-3, MHz: [100] SPPc->MCP Ref Clock, MHz: [200] nForce SPP --> nForce MCP: [5X] nForce SPP c-- nForce MCP: [5X] **Spread Spectrum** CPU Spread Spectrum: [Disabled] HT Spread Spectrum: [Disabled] PCle Spread Spectrurn(SPP): [Disabled] PCle Spread Spectrurn(MCP): [Disabled] SATA Spread Spectrum: [Disabled] **FSB & Memorv Config** FSB - Memory Clock Mode: [linked] FSB - Memory Ratio: [Sync Mode] FSB (QDR), MHz: [1333.3] Actual FSB (QDR), MHz: 1333.3 x MEM (DDR), MHz: 1333 Actual MEM (DDR), MHz: 1333.3 P1: [Enabled] P2: [Enabled] **Memory Timing Setting** Memory Timing Setting: [expert] tCL (CAS Latency): 8 tRCD: 8 tRP: 8 tRAS: 22 Command Per Clock: [2T] ** Advanced Memory Settings ** tRRD: [4] tRC: [33] tWR: [12] tWTR: [16] tFAW: [21] tREF: [7.8uS] tRFC: [74] **System Voltages** CPU Core: [1.3] CPU FSB: [1.4] Memory: [1.7] nForce SPP: [1.45] nForce MCP: [1.5] GTLVREF Lane 0: [Auto] -30 GTLVREF Lane 1: [Auto] -30 GTLVREF Lane 2: [Auto] +0 GTLVREF Lane 3: [Auto] +0 **CPU Configuration** Limit CPUlD Maxval: Disabled Intel Speedstep: Disabled xPPM Mode: [Native] CPU Thermal Control: [Disabled] C1E Enhanced Halt State: [Disabled] Execute Disable Bit: [Disabled] Virtualization Technology: [Disabled] CPU Core 0: [Enabled] CPU Core 1: [Enabled] CPU Core 2: [Enabled] CPU Core 3: [Enabled] Any suggestions would be helpful.

I think that it is your RAM. Try these settings: **Memory Timing Setting** Memory Timing Setting: [expert] tCL (CAS Latency): 8 (9) tRCD: 8 (9) tRP: 8 (9) tRAS: 22 (24) What do your load temps look like? Use Everest Ultimate. http://www.lavalys.com/ What is your brand/model PSU?

Items of note: If those are full load temps, then ignore the next sentence, if they are idle or moderate load temps, then please take note. Your MCP temps are a little high. Are you using the NB fan that came with the board? Have you replace the TIM on the heatsink? Your brand/model CPU cooler are you currently using? You may want to consider a higher wattage PSU in the future, especially should you upgrade your card and/or start OC'ing.

I didn't use it and also I can't find anywhere that showed me how to install it because i didn't see it in the manual. I just bought a new heatsink probably around 2 months ago so I replaced the TIM when i replaced the old heatsink that came with the CPU with a better improved heatsink. I'm using artic silver for my thermal paste.

I believe Vistahead is talking about the heatsink on the NB-SB heat sink. I agree, the temps on the NB-SB are too high, you really do need a fan for that heat sink. 77 degrees for MCP can cause system instablity and freezing such as you are seeing.

The following link is a guide on how to change the TIM. http://www.evga.com/forumsarchive/tm.asp?m=499530 What brand/model CPU cooler did you purchase? I will try to describe how to install the fan. The fan will be mounted on the side of NB heatsink that faces the PCI slots. When you mount the fan, if memory serves me correctly, the fan wire will be located on the bottom portion of the fan on the same side as the header that it attaches. My NB/SB is watercooled, so I am trying to visualize how you mount it. If you noticed, the heatsink has fins...the mounting points of the fan press in between the fins snugly, and you should be good to go. The top of the fan should be about even with the top of the NB heatsink. I am sure if I am describing the mounting process incorrectly, someone will post what is different. You really need to install the fan...it will lower your NB/SB temps.

VistaHead oosecksibryan kk thanks for you suggestions i will check it out =] You forgot to answer the other question...what CPU cooler did you get? Hi I instsalled the fan and my new temps are as follows SPP 56 °C (133 °F) MCP 67 °C (153 °F) I still think my MCP is a bit high And about the cpu cooler are you asking about the heatsink or the thermal paste?

I am asking what cooler are you using to cool your CPU? The one that came with the chip? Did you purchase an aftermarket one? You are correct, if those are idle temps, they are still a little high. You want to ensure that you have good case air flow...make sure that you have good cable management, try to move them out of the airflow path. What brand/model case are you using?

You may want to change the TIM on the NB/SB heatsink. A link on how to do so is in post #7. That should lower your temps some.

Those temps are better but I think with a bit more case flow you would see even better temps, you should now be below the point where those temps are causing you instablity. Case flow goes a long way towards getting those temps down and redoing the TIM might help also.

So I just replaced and added more fans to my my comp and redid the wires for more airflow I was able to drop the SPP/MCP to the following, I'm wondering if this is good. SPP 51 °C (124 °F) MCP 57 °C (135 °F) These are at basically its peak
