Charter and their "Faster Speeds For All"

I have to say charter just keeps going down the pipes...every time they increase speed for all, my connection gets more and more unreliable. My modem runs at proper upload performance for about 3 minutes after resetting it, then it is back to get this...4kb/sec I swear, I wish there was ANY other service provider other than satellite and mobile phone out here. Ever since I got this connection, I get constant drops usually at night, or when it rains. My downloads are flat fantastic, 100+Mb/sec in some cases, but what the heck good is a fast connection, if it only works 20% of the time. Techs are a freakin joke out here, they are as monkey push button as they can be. AHHHHHHH, anyone else have upload speed issues since charter enacted their faster speeds for all plan early in January?

My connection with Charter has only dropped twice in the last year. Both time it was an issue on their end. Are you using your own modem, or one of theirs?

blkhole Word is Time-Warner Cable is coming in for the purchase soon, so hopefully things will change for ya... Cause this will be a good thing???? My parents place has underground wiring and there is a 8" junction box in our front lawn. The cover broke on it and I tried to get Time Warner to fix it for 4 months. I even went to the city to complain, but the city was powerless to do anything. I had to make a complaint to the BBB to get some attention on the problem. Now at my place I have Verizon FIOS and am much happier.

Kuzak My connection with Charter has only dropped twice in the last year. Both time it was an issue on their end. Are you using your own modem, or one of theirs? Ive run both, neither one has ever been really reliable, but I could get over the reliability for the speeds I was getting per the price, but now it is both unreliable, and the speed is trash. The charter modem went totally out last friday. Called today, and no one has a clue about the replacement. I am back to using my cisco with my Cable modem Hwic from work. Seriously, their forums are flooded with people having upload issues after they did this latest faster speeds for all promotion.

Techs are a freakin joke out here, they are as monkey push button as they can be. AHHHHHHH, anyone else have upload speed issues since charter enacted their faster speeds for all plan early in January? I use Charter and one thing I've noticed is they are not very good at provisioning. Here is a little secret: Request a DOCSIS 3.0 modem from them. (even if you don't have a subscription that needs that) Tell them you want your network to be 100% gigabit and the DOCSIS 3.0 modem has gigabit. That will get you a lot more bandwidth and less latency. From the description of your problems, it sounds like either the cable modem is bad (which makes sense if it is now completely dead) or your cable (inground or above) took a lightning hit and is damaged. I had this happened to mine and they had to come pull another cable in the ground for me. It's very simple to test, but it requires a tech come out to your location and hook a cable tester up to the line.

i have a surfboard modem, so i can log into my modem and check the signal strength. if you have that option you should do that, it should tell you if the problem is your line, or farther up the pipe. downstream power level should be -10 to 10 upstream should be 40 to 50 (it is on mine anyways). Go to http://192.168.1.100 and put in id: admin password: motorola if you have a surfboard modem. you have to be directly connected, i dont think you can get there thru a router.

Finally a new modem made it to my place, they actually gave me a cisco....I didn't think charter gave out any decent modems. Yeah, I got the docsis 3.0 when I had so many connection problems originally. So, all in all, I have had a Ambit, a Ubee, and now a Cisco, will let you all know how the cisco does once I get it hooked up.
