This is what I use http://www.raxco.com/home/home-premium.aspx

This is what I use to use http://www.auslogics.com/.../disk-defrag/download/

The one I use is not free, but the other is. They both work great, and better than Windows version.

        Another awesome program
        http://www.mydefrag.com/
It's lightweight and gets the job done.
Also, is your HDD activity light still blinking?

Yeah last time I will use the windows version. Can I fire up some games while defrag? This is very annoying...

            I use Defraggler myself.

If your system is defragging for 24 hours I'd probably cancel it and then use something else to finish it.

If you only have the one drive it would probably not be useful to play games while it's defragging since other files (temporary ones) will be created while you are playing.

I use Defraggler, you can select files to defrag so it doesn't do the whole HD.

              Edit: Ninja'd by scaryone.

I have a 2 TB drive with 1.1 TB used, was 25% fragmented and it took defraggler 3 or 4 hours to do via the "defrag by file" way.
It's made by the CC cleaner people and free.

I use Smart Defrag for my HDD's and systems in the shop.  It has three levels of defragmenting - Defrag, Defrag and Fast Optimize, Defrag and Full Optimize; fastest to slowest from left to right respectively.  You also have the option to enable/disable boot time defrag, automatic defrag per drive, and more.  Performance-wise, it's considerably quick while using the fastest defragmentation option.  With a disk footprint of ~4.64MB, it's one of a kind.

                  MyDefrag is even smaller :)

Are you running the defrag in Safe Mode?  If not, do that.

What can happen in normal Windows mode is some background service or process keeps accessing the disk, which causes Defrag to restart over and over.

When I need to do a manual defrag I reboot to Safe Mode, clear my local Temp folder, clear the C:\Windows\Temp folder, clear browser cache, then run the defrag.  No sense in defragging a bunch of temp files.

The last time I used the Windows one and lasted over 24 hours it murdered my HDD... Please use one of the above suggested.

Auslogics Disk Defrag is fast and it's free. Pretty much anything is faster than windows old defragger though, lol.

Although get an SSD and you wont need to run defrag.. at least not on the primary o/s SSD.
