Z68 Micro SLI Boot Problem
Wednesday, February 22, 2012 5:07 PM
( permalink)
When I have my pc shut down for awhile, it takes me 10+ times of hitting the reset or power switch to get it to boot into Windows. I can tell everytime that its not going to boot right by the sounds of the fans on my video card and cpu heatsink fans starting up at full speed. I'm using an SSD as a cache. Any help would be great.

Thanks for the fast response. d6 is the last code before it tries to reboot.

xd6 is "No Console Output Devices Found" This usually means the GPU card is not being fully recoginzed by the DXE phase of the EFI boot sequence. DXE is when the drivers would be loading. It could be you need to, as Zelmo said, remove and reinsert the GPU card. Also make sure you are getting adequate power to the PCIe buss and the GPU Card. The plug on the GPU card itself and the PCIe buss plug on the motherboard.

KenMcC The plug on the GPU card itself and the PCIe buss plug on the motherboard. I have both 8 pins plugged into the video card and there's no PCIe plug on the MB. What do you mean by PCIe buss plug on the mb? I came home today and the pc booted up first try. I don't think it's the video card.

It is the 4 pin connector just to the read of the EVGA labled Heat sink and just in front of the last USB connector. Looks like an old style HDD connector. Also, glad to here you did not have to retry 10+ times to get it to boot.

If it gets stuck on D6 try reseating the card, then trying another slot or power connectors.

Also, glad to here you did not have to retry 10+ times to get it to boot. Check out the picture. Is this what you are talking about? If so, do I plug in a 4 pin from my PS to this or what do I do? I have nothing plugged into this. I'm using an Ultra X3 1000w Modular PS.

No the 4 pin header on the mobo fits legacy plugs it's not on the Z68 Micro, I don't know if I could figure out what is wrong with your build but I have an Ultra X3 1000 Watt and if you look up reviews that PSU was phased out because it was failing on a lot of people and replaced by an X4. (try to troubleshoot with a different PSU if you can find one)

I think its the 460 2win that's causing my pc to have these boot issues. I will try another psu for the 460 2win. Edit: RMA'd the 460 2win
