780i Noisy NB Fan

Hi, Is there a replacement fan available for the 780i north bridge. My PC has always been noisy since i brought it back in 2008. Its a Cosmos case (sound reduction material on the sides) and since last year fitted with quiet Noctuca (3x Case)/(2x CPU on H50) fans. Today, I opened the case and stopped the NB fan with my finger and whilst not silent, it was a lot quieter. This is my 2nd 780i, so I know the fan isn't faulty it's just how it is. Are they are recommendations of fans that can replace it. if there are do they clip in or are additional mounts required. I know this all goes out the window when playing games and the 470GTX hits 70% fan speeds. But it would be nice to have it quieter the rest of the time.

You can purchase any 40mm or 60mm fan and zip-tie to the heatsink. Personally, I don't like the look of zip-ties, but quite a few folks here on the forum have done so.

Cheers. I'm looking at some 60mm fans on Overclockers.co.uk and scan.co.uk. Doing some research and anything above 14CFM seems to be enough to handle the cooling.

On 750i FTW I'm using Fander Roxo 60mm. 18.6 CFM (31.61 m3/h) ~ 16.8 dBA. Look at this. /watch?v=ijihagaOFoE

I like the video :) I'm going to go with the Fractal 60mm. Not as quiet as the one you posted but I can't find it in the UK. The Fractal one is only £5, so i've ordered it already :)

if dont like the zip tie look you can use some small screws, i used 4 #6 wood screw about .75inches, you can find them with cabinet hardware at your local hardware store, you can also get them in black. you just aline the heatsink and gently push the screws in, the threads will grab between to of the heat sink fins and hold, unless you sticking 100cfm delta on there. i have had mine this way since i got the board in 08. it looks very clean also, take a look at my modsrigs to see.

That is a really good idea. I have a look at your rig and its very tidy doing it that way. Looks arent an issue with me as the cosmos case has no window to see inside of it.
