P55 FTW bios issues?

I decided to update my bios for no reason other than I wanted to see the process. Wonderful, it worked. However, this is the issue: My PC freezes at random after booting into windows. I feel like I've tried everything. I've taken out the CMOS battery, did the bios install again, bios settings changed to default, changed memory timings a bit, changed voltage on CPU, and I've switched to the other 2 bios settings that's available. Those have been untouched but the issue still happens regardless. I feel like I've googled this thing to death but nothing comes up. I don't know how to revert the bios back to factory bios. Settings yes, but how do I start with the original bios motherboard? Short of buying a new motherboard, I have no idea what else to do. Please for the love of jeebus and all that is jelly help me out. System: i7 860 evga p55 ftw 12 gigs of ram (8 of it is G.Skill and 4 of it Corsair) super awesome power supply

If you have not selected and then flashed the other 2 CMOS chips on the board you are running the original BIOS that shipped with the board when you have selected it as the flash will only change the BIOS on the CMOS chip you have selected. If it is happening on the older BIOSes there could be something else starting to fail in the system. I would start with testing the RAM with Memtest86 for 3~5 passes when the voltage and timings are setup in the BIOS. Try just having the G.Skill or the Corsair in the system as setup as mixing packs and models of RAM can cause the system to be unstable as well. If you combine packs of the same model RAM we recommend contacting the maker for the settings to get them to work together but they may not have settings to run the other maker's pack with their stuff as well as them being dissimilar. You can get the older BIOSes here if you want to re-flash to older BIOSes. http://www.evga.com/suppo...art_number=132-LF-E657

Definitely could be memory - I've had issues mixing XMS 3 sticks from Corsair (different batches). Interesting it only started after the update though.

Yeah, I've not had any issues since I've had different sticks until after the update. :( I'll do the memtest and see what becomes of it. Thanks for the replies guys!

Ok so I did the memtest on default bios settings ( no memory timing changes) and I've come to the conclusion it's one of 3 things: A) Dimm slot 1 has now become bad B) All 4 sticks have now become bad C) motherboard does not like default bios settings D) I didn't do something right Here are my findings: - Memory stick 1 (corsair) completed to 52% of the test and found 344 errors @ 4 min and 15 sec
- Memory stick 2 (same model as 1) completed to 52% of the test and found 348 errors @ 4 min & 15 sec
- Memory stick 3 (gskill) completed to 54% of the test and found 346 errors @ 8 min & 40 sec
- Memory stick 4 (same as 3) completed to 54% and found 349 errors @ 8 min & 42 sec
- Memory stick 1 & 2 completed to 54% of the test and found 338 errors @ 4 min & 14 sec
*After 300+ errors found on each test the test did not continue.
I didn't feel the need to do sticks 3&4 because I felt at this point it would yield the same results. So... now the problem becomes: which is the issue?

Try increasing Vtt to 1.20v with one set (2 dimms) installed and make sure your SATA config. is set appropriately (IDE, AHCI, etc.)

I did... same results. Except faster and more. 25% completed with 910 errors @ 1 min & 12 sec

You may have a bad CPU as it contains the memory controller on your board.

:( Is there anyway to know for sure? I mean as of right now the PC works... except the random freezes. Is there anything else I can do to narrow it down? This is frustrating for sure. I think I've decided I'm just going to get a new mobo, cpu, ram. That should cover it right?
