P55 SLI will not boot. Monday, February 13, 2012 7:09 PM (permalink)
I am trying to boot win 7 on my new p55 sli, and it gets to the windows animation thing freezes and gives me a blue screen.  Any ideas whats going on?  I am using a version of windows 7 that came stock on the hard drive of my old computer.

Have you manually set your RAM timings and voltages in BIOS?

Regardless, manually set them to what your RAM manufacturer has specified.

i set the ram freq to what i have and it still crashes.  It takes like 10 seconds or so for the windows animation to start up, and the animation will go for like half a second and then gives me the blue screen for like half a second and then turns off and tries to reboot.

You manually set not just the frequency, but the timings and voltage too, correct? Just confirming.

please specify your processor model and RAM specs (amount, # of dimms, and timings).

First of all, double check that you have the RAM in the right slots (the gray ones). If you are using 4 dimms disregard this.

Secondly, enter your BIOS's frequency voltage menu and enter the memory config. sub-menu. Once inside, set the following parameters:

                          Memory Speed: Standard (not XMP)
Memory Multi/Div: 2:8 (should then show 1066 MHz)
Go down the page to the first 4 timing adjustment fields and enter the following settings:
                          CAS-9
                          tRCD-9
                          tRP-9
                          tRAS-24
Then, go down to command rate and set it manually at 2.

Also, verify that your DRAM voltage is set to the manufacturer's specification (generally 1.5 or 1.65v)

Save, attempt to boot into Win. and check back.

i have fixed it, it wasnt the ram or anything, the bios or something was set to IDE when i am trying to boot windows 7.  I changed it to AHCI and it works now.  Thanks you guys for trying to help, i really appreciate it!
